My PCU meter now stays pegged with 8.1. It has me worried due to without warning, complete shutdowns on the program. Then, it reopens. I have 12 GIGs of RAM on an HP Pavilion. I've done a CCleaner scan to make sure it was nothing on my end. This problem started with the recent update. Anyone know what might be up?
The program has always used a lot of CPU with the CPU meter fluctuating around 75%. Now, it is pegged all the way into the red and does not budge.

What processor are you using? If it was running at approximately 75% before the update then I think there could be something else running in the background as that sounds high to me. Also what build are you using?

I would use the Resource Monitor in Windows to see what all of your processor usages are.

Update-I went into Task Manager and found SVCHOST.EXE at 280,120kb and a second SVCHOST.EXE file at 188,960kb. The first file is causing the CPU to stay at 100%. I check in Virtual DJ and with the Task Manager. Once I end the process on both files I got back 50-60% of the processor. Virtual DJ drops back into the green, occasionally going into the yellow and red.
I'm not sure why now these files are an issue but several times my laptop (HP, 8 GIGS on RAM) would completely shutdown and restart.
I read somewhere on this forum that someone said to end the process of Virtual DJ files that appear in the Task Manager. I highly suggest not doing that as the entire program will crash.

While the task manager is a great little tool, the resource monitor will let you select the SVCHOST in questions and see what files are running under it, what disk access it is doing, memory usage, network usages. It allows you to drill down more.

SVCHOST.EXE using lots of CPU is often windows update
On a gig laptop windows update should be completely disabled.
It's not enough to set it to "ask me before...", since that still uses a lot of cpu
On a win10 machine that's a bit complicated to do, but here is a manual:

Then of course you should run/enable the windows update manually pretty often - but not while using VDJ for anything important - and then only accept to download and install the updates you want

Windows Defender uses a service that is hosted by a svchost.exe try disabling it

Normally there are more than one svchost.exe process running.
On my machine there are currently 13 running.
So you can't tell which process is used by Windows Defender.
