Anybody using one with Virtualdj 8?
13 inch or 15 inch?
If yes, then what's your experience?
Looked around and can't find any info.

They've only been out a matter of days I believe Les.
Two main issues are that they are vastly overpriced (especially in the UK) and that the SSD is soldered to the motherboard so if it wears out (which they always do) it will be £500 plus for a new logic board.
Can't see too many people buying these at all to be honest, but as above it would be good to see how they perform with VDJ8, especially on the mac side.

I just bought it. It's a great machine, lighter, thinner, smaller. And its fast, while the fans are practically inaudible. I love the finger print sensor, as I dont have to type in passwords any more. I have the 15 inch version.
The Touch Bar is nice, but not necessary, as I mostly use the buttons that were there before anyway (screen brightness, volume etc.). Once VDJ will support the Touch Bar, this might be more interesting though.
Yes its not cheap, but it feels very solid and high quality, so while its a lot of money, it does not feel overpriced to me. Simply the best notebook on the market in my opinion.
Ah, VDJ runs perfectly. But it did on my old Macbook as well, so there is not a great difference, maybe the BPM analyzing is a bit faster.

Any source on that?
As far as I know both manufacturer ratings and real-life tests show that SSD wear on practical use-cases are far over 10 years.

Thinking of getting the 13" Touchbar version and selling my current Mac. I don't do video anymore, so, don't see the need for the 15" with separate video card.
My current MBP is a mid 2010 15" i7. On my third Hard Drive, although, the current one is a 500gb SSD bootcamped with W7. Got battery problems now (booked into the Genious Bar on Boxing Day). Just thinking it's time to move on, being self employed it's setoff against tax anyway plus the sale of the old one (and my mate can get 10% off) makes it more reasonable.

I get what you're saying but my personal view is that there are far better machines out there for less money that are upgradeable and repairable.
I know you're bootcamping like I used to because Mac machines were better, but nowadays I think they have been watered down to increase margin and priced up beyond belief.
The tide has turned and I certainly wouldn't consider a Mac any more. The Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro machine I have had for just under 3 years has been faultless and it cost far less than the similarly specced Mac. It also folds to tablet mode for space saving and has a touchscreen which the Macs don't.
Just my opinion Les.
I will give them 4 years maximum due to heat issues. And that's probably too long .....

I have one, just fired up VDJ and the touch bar does nothing as yet.
I actually received by mistake, I ordered the old 2015 and they sent new one because they must of sold out of the 2015's. Funny because I originally bought the new one on the Apple website for £3100 and then cancelled over the ports being removed, then I buy 2015 through electronic king on ebay for £2400 and receive the £3100 version.
Not worth the extra money, I have a previous retina 2013 SSD model and prefer it. Magsafe, USB, SD, and Thicker more secure feeling. I will be keeping the new one as I needed a bigger hard drive but cant get over how there is only 16gb ram on a £3100 laptop!

16gb is probably enough from a usage point of view, however for the price it should be more "pro" and offer more.
I have just bought my 14 year old son a gaming PC for xmas, It's a custom desktop and comes with a top of the range FHD 144hz monitor and everything in it is pretty much up there (i7 skylake, 16gb fast RAM, 256gb Samsung SSD + 1tb HDD, GTX1070 graphics) and it was £1650 so I really can't see how Apple can charge so much for their mediocre specs. Apple computers are double what they should be and they certainly aren't pro any more.
Anyway, sorry for hijacking. Will be interesting to see if VDJ will support the touch bar as it would be a handy feature.

Hmmmm, kinda liking the look of this one guys. ASUS Republic of Gamers GL502 15.6" Gaming Laptop
........... and 15" i7 with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M with 3gb memory onboard. 128 SSD & 1tb HD with all the normal ports as well as USB type C.

Only £850 cheaper than the Mac 13" I've been looking at :-)
Anybody using one?
I'm seriously tempted....

The ROG is a very good machine. I think Rick (AMAHM) uses a similar one.
I'm really struggling to see how Apple can justify the pricing of their machines given the spec and the fact they're literally glued together.

Oops, just posted a link to it, £1,099
Much as I like Macs, mine cost £1550 over 6 years ago. To get the equivalent on the new ones would be £2800, that's why I was looking at the 13" i5 at £1950. But...... it's that price that has had me soul searching for a few weeks, could I justify the expense?
The ROG looks very attractive.
My Mac is still working fine although I've gotta take it in to sort the "battery service" error next Monday. I'll see what I'm gonna do after that.

I bought the Asus Rog GL702 last month, slightly better video card with 6bg ram. I upgraded the ram to 32gb with hyper x ram. Though it didn't really need it. its a hell of a machine. I was mixing in VDJ the other day, outputting full HD video visualisations to a monitor and projector, downloading 6 or more videos on wifi and analysing 5000 songs, all at the same time and nothing skipped a beat. The CPU bar never went above 2 green. Under normal usage it barely flickers with one green bar on the CPU Meter.

My thoughts on ASUS ROG are here. I am going to take a look at the new ones including the GL702 listed above.

Battery is a joke compared to the older model.

I thought they were selling the new MBP on having a better battery life?
Maybe just needs a few charge cycles to bed in.

Better battery but a smaller one.
My is direct time machine install so it is exactly the same as my other one so I can do a direct comparison, it is literally having to be plugged in every couple of hours it seems, i haven't timed it but noticeable.

Seems with every Apple release you pay more and get less. People will run out of patience with them and they will end up like Nokia.

Not trying to hi-jack here but for you guys using the 17" ROG, does the size bother you??
I've always used a 15" Mac or PC, the 17" just seems huge to me.

I actually like having the bigger screen, it was one of the reasons I bought it. Much easier to see stuff. Though that might be because i'm new to this so i'm looking at the screen more than most people maybe? The screen itself though is very Matt, which is good, get hardly any reflection. Just to mention battery though, the battery life is not great, though it is not going to be when its running the kind of hardware that it is. But who cares, who is DJing on battery? It would probably last 3 hours max on battery, though everything is set for performance.
