I have a macbook pro retina 15 2014 osx 1.9.5 and Vdj ver. 7.4.7, when i type in the search box or deleting the gpu freezes and sometimes i get a small skip in the sound, also i can see the cpu goes up in the activity monitor, what can be the cause of that ?

Even though i respect all those who say "If it's not broken , don't change it" and stay with version 7 after all those years version 8 is available, i still have to ask : Were you having this issue before or came up recently ?
If you repeat the typing after a couple of seconds, does the freeze occur again ? If not, it's probably related to "Hard Drive went to bed for a while"

My obvious suggestion is to try version 8.

First in the os x "energy saver" the hd doesn't go to sleep both on battery and power adapter.
Second it happens every time, i use all most every song in the search box.
I have this problem for a long time I tried using the finder for song searching but its not easy to work like that...

Disabling the drive standby in the system settings won't actually stop most external drives from going to sleep, so it is still possible that the drive has aggressive power saving settings.

There are apps you can use to override this that access the drive continually to make sure it stays awake - could be worth a try as a troubleshooting aid.

have you tried with the file date column disabled?

pretty sure that has some impact on speed

my suggestion would be checking your systems performance, sounds to me your ram is choked up.

it may seem extreme but if youve been using the same file set for several years you probably have a lot of residual files in your system that dont need to be there.

id back up my data write a list of my currently installed apps and do a fresh os install. i

ive had my air for just over a year and ive fresh installed it twice or three times so far just to keep my file system clean. once i get the perfect combination of apps i want installed i will do a time machine back up incase i ever have an issue.

but while i test software i may not keep i dont want to clog my system.
