Greetings to all.

I have a question that maybe can be answered by the experts.

The scenario :
I am playing with the ddj rx as a main controller and as a backup I have a 2nd laptop connected ( & vdj running) to a line input on the ddj rx (the backup laptop gives sound from the headphone jack to the line input of ddj rx)

Now comes the tricky part..

Lets say the main laptop stops.. I immediately raise the line input channel to give sound from the backup laptop.
I then remove the usb from the main laptop and connect it to the backup (while vdj is playing on the backup).
I enable the ddj rx from the controllers options in vdj.

The ddj rx usb midi part takes over and I can stop or start the track & raise the channels.
But the rx soundcard does not give any sound..the sound still comes through the headphone jack of the backup laptop..
It says “apply” but it does not give any sound..

But when I close vdj and reopen it the rx soundcard works as it should !

I tried the same scenario with the ddj rr (but only bus powered,to lazy to connect the power cord..) and the ddj wego 2 (only bus powered) and after pressing “apply” in vdj the sound came through the controllers soundcard without having to restart vdj.

So my question is :

Why does the ddj rx require a vdj restart to enable the soundcard ?
Is it because its powered with a power cord & external power ?

If that’s the case it would mess with my backup plan when using the ddj rx..

Thank you all for your patience of the long post

Do you get the same result if you start with your backup and then switch to your main computer ?

i forgot to mention..i am using windows 7 pro on both laptops and they are audio optimized & 8 gigs of ram on an i5 3rd gen & i3 3rd gen.
vdj is the latest 8.0 - 3994 ( after this post i updated to the latest public release 4204)

so i tried it the other way around and it still did the same (start from backup and go to main laptop).

but then i thought of looking at the sound properties (down on the right , the little speaker) and what i did was (with the ddj rx connented) to also select the ddj rx speakers as default playback device .
after that it works as it should, the sound switches to the ddj rx soundcard.

? did do the right thing or am i on a road to future trouble ?
i wouldnt want to get in to other trouble since the system has worked with out any issues for 4 years (with 5 different controllers) ..

when the ddj rx is connected , both devices have a green checkmark and when i do the switch of soundcards from vdj it goes smoothly.

if i had windows 10 would there be any difference ?

For your backup computer, its OK to have the Pioneer sound card as default playback device, so that it works - as you found - when you do the emergency switch, without having to apply any different Audio setup..
But for your main laptop, i wouldnt recommend it. We have seen troubles in performance due to the fact that the Pioneer ASIO rely on the WASAPI to work properly and "sharing" the device with other Windows applications and operations is not the safest choice.

so thats what i did just to be on the safe side..

thank you for the support !

one more question : would i gain anything in performance or otherwise if i switched to windows 10 ?
i am a beleiver of : "if it works - dont change it" but if there is something to be gained from the switch , maybe i would think about it..

thanks again
