For the last few months multiple times, when I opened up VDJ, the software reset to default, and all my shortcuts and settings are gone.
i created database backups and that hasnt saved my settings,
is there something i can do to avoid this if this happens again?

Most of the time settings reset is only due to settings.xml temporary not being readable at load time
(mainly locked by a thread in background) restarting computer (cold boot) fixes it most of the time
rarely exiting VDJ overwrites the settings - mainly after a crash/reload before to exit
Yes it did save the settings:
When using the database backup function settings.xml is bundle in the zip file located in "VirtualDJ\Backup"
it names "settings_backup.xml"
settings (including custom buttons) stay in it
(unless you manually save your database in some location)
restoring the database does not seems to restore settings.xml file (or maybe VDJ overwrite it at exit)
Quit VDJ
go to "VirtualDJ/Backup"
open the .zip archive and copy "settings_backup.xml" to "VirtualDJ/settings.xml"
then reopening VDJ custom buttons (and old settings) may comeback
(unless it was corrupted before the backup for some reason)
