Topic: What reggae do you play? - Page: 1

Questa parte dell'argomento è obsoleta e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate

Hi all.

I know this should really be in the music forum but, I would just like to find out what sort of reggae you play in your sets. I am almost, but not quite, a complete reggae nut. There are so many types of reggae within the overall genre. To name but a few, dancehall, roots, dub, and a miriad of various rddims. I have stuff that goes way back to original ska right up to the latest dancehall stuff. Just treat this as a straw poll. lol. :-)

I play Dancehall and rockers. Iove the classic Dancehall riddims. Some of the newer reggae gets on my nerves.

Sometimes I get into soca. I haven't had a calypso croud in about 10 years.

I would love to hear you play. Let me know when you are on o.k.

Reggae & Soca are my core. Last year I branched out into hip hop and r&b to be more rounded. Unless your are playing for a Caribbean crowd or those of Caribbean descent most folks aren’t familiar with a lot of reggae - only the reggae which is played on the radio. I branched out to other forms of music to learn to beatmatch better, cuz reggae is easy to beatmatch(real beatmatching - not the visual stuff) since several groups of songs have the same riddim. The fun in DJing comes when u can beat match songs like hip hop tunes most of which don’t have the same riddim…..

CHAKA DEMUS & PLIERS - TEASE ME (3) Jun 1993
CJ LEWIS - SWEETS FOR MY SWEET (3) Apr 1994
Diana King - Shy Guy [2] Jul 1995
INNER CIRCLE - SWEAT (3) May 1993
PATO BANTON & ALI & ROBIN CAMPBELL - BABY COME BACK (1) Oct 1994
SHABBA RANKS - MR LOVERMAN (23) Aug 1992

shola ama - Sweetest Taboo
UB40 - CANT HELP (FALLING IN LOVE WITH YOU) (1) May 1993

I'm not really a reggae fan so when someone asks me to play some I'm struggling.
What other's might work for me? Anyone got any suggestions?

@ DjGazUK

There are so many tracks you can play depending on what audience you got.
You could go for classics like:
Everything I own Ken Booth
I can see clearly now Jimmy Cliff
Beds To big without you Shiela Hylton
no, no,no Dawn Penn
Midnight Rider Paul Davidson
Walk and don't look back Peter Tosh
Then there is more upto date stuff:
FAr from reality Natural Black
Any Sean Paul,Shaggy,Shabba Ranks,
And check out any of the hundreds of riddims that are out there.
If you ned anymore help or a playlist just PM me or see my blog for msn.
