Topic: Something Other Than the MK2

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

I am going to be getting some equipment pretty soon and the Hercules MK2, has everything I want (turntables (sort of), mixer, and the ability to hook it up to my computer), however, I don't mind spending more than what the MK2 costs. I was wondering if anyone has any other suggestions of what I could possibly get so that I could scratch, mix with music coming from my compter.

Thanks

For this price (of MK2) you won't get a controller for scratch. XP10 for example are expensive, so are direct drive turntables (TC Vinyls are not) :)
Cd-players which have scratch possibility are expensive too. MK2 is the best choice.

I thought the jog wheels for the MK2 allowed you to scratch?

You can but it is not accurate.

That's no good. I was hoping that would work out.

About my first post, I don't mind paying up to $700 for the package I am going to get. I just can't figure out what all I would need if I was going to use CDJ or turnables and use time-coded stuff. Or if there is something like the MK2 but better.

You can go for DAC3, but you will be again without scratching. It is very very good controller.
The only controller for the moment is XP10 which allows you to scratch. But you can do much better csratch with CD-players and TCCD or with TTs and TCVs.

If you want a system with cd-players or turntables, you need only maya44 usb and TC vinyls or CDs.

Well I've been looking around, and I can't find any decent looking and cheap CDJ. I would love to buy the Pioneer CDJ1000, but they are definitely too expensive.

I did find some direct-drive turntable packages and I was wondering what everyone thinks about these, and if they would work with the TCV. They are also all packaged together so all I would need is a new sound card, Virutal DJ, and TCV's.

The BCD2000 is cheaper, but don't has a predefined setting with VDJ, you have to do it manually as MIDI controller.

Maybe in future versions it will be predefined.

I had the Numark battle pack, and I don't reccommend it. Here's why:

1. Torque is too low. This means when you stop a record with your hand, you have to give it an extra push to make sure it pick right back up again, because the platter slows down too easily.
2. The mixer was terrible. It's very basic, with no curve control or an off switch! The crossfader was sticky, and not at all useful for scratching.
3. The cartridges were not good for scratching. They skipped during heavy scratching, and a little during mixing too. You would need to add cartridges to your list of things needed to buy.
4. (I learned this one the hard way!!!) When you're ready to upgrade, you will not get much at all for them, because nobody will want to buy them from you! I got $100 for my pack, which originally cost $400. That was an expensive lesson!

The bottom line is that you are better off just getting nice stuff up front. I spin a couple of Numark TTX's (with Ortofon styli) and I use a Numark DXM09 mixer. This setup cost me about 1250, plus the 300 I lost on my battle pack. It's a lot of money, but I won't need to upgrade any time in the near future, and it plays like a dream!

socross,

I see some of our members use the Numark TTX, and seem very happy like you. But I'm unsure if I get them if I'm going to pay $1250....

SL-1210MK5 are $458 usd each and Stanton pair of cartridge and stylus for $139 pair (Groovemaster II Pro) and with DMX950USB mixer for only $1150 usd. Even if I want to use Ortofon, I only pay $59 more and get this with Digitrack cartridges (that are the must expensive of the line). I sacrifice the mixer, but not the turntables in this comparison, even with the other mixer you don't have a highly price in comparision. You could get this with Technics and DMX09 too paying $1389 for all wich is $139 more than you pay for TTx. (DMX09 mixer is about $328 usd).

The main difference about SL-1200 turntables and others is the fluctuation in speed. In these turntables is about 10 times less than others.
