Topic: Want to by a laptop. Need help on configuration. - Page: 1

Questa parte dell'argomento è obsoleta e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate

I want to buy a laptop to use it with vdj. I'm playing audio. I want to use it with numark cm200usb mixer, dac3 controller and an external usb harddisk (I already have all these). I've read the posts about laptops but I would like to know what model will certainly work with vdj. I must order the laptop the next few days. So, what laptop do you use? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

i have Toshiba m100-180.

Just choose Intel Core Duo and 1 GB of ram, about 60GB disk (you don7t need more if you have external one) and that's it! You don't need good graphic card to work with audio, but it's worth to choose at least x1400, you can never know when you will want to play videos ;)

we need to make a sticky of what laptop and preferred specs, and what to avoid.
It could be updated as new hardware is released.
I know that I posted the same thing, but I notice that it comes up all the time, and I would have read the sticky.

I know what you mean, I'm looking for a Laptop too, but I don't wanna post cause i'm sure it's been asked a million times. They say a pc is better for video, anyone who's been doing video successfully for a long time is probably using a custom built pc. My question is, what would be the ultimate laptop for video? Nice simple question.

For me it's either a laptop or f*** the video. I don't wanna carry around a cpu. I already have a set up that's built for a laptop, which works flawlessly with TCV's.
Sorry for hijacking this post, but could someone just tell me:-
1)The video card I need(name)
2)Best Processor
3)Best format for video(don't care about space, just best performance)
or basically just give me a link to a good video laptop(in the US)

It's easy, the more expensive the better :)
X1800 is the top of the line mobile video card right now, with X1900 coming out soon. Whoever said that laptops can't handle video as well as desktops haven't spent enough money :)
Try www.notebookreview.com for some good suggestions. They have a "What should I buy" section.
If I were you, I would look at IBM/Lenovo, ASUS, HP, and Sony.
If you are on a tight budget, take a look at HP. Some of their models have good specs for a low price. Nothing beats IBM/Lenovo build quality and keyboard. They are having a holiday sale right now.
Ofcourse this all depends on your budget.
I don't think there are any new Windows laptops that would NOT work with VDJ. There is no reason why they shouldn't. Soundcards are another story, but most built-in laptop soundcards should not be used with VDJ anyway.

It's even easier, I have read a number of times on here to simply stay away from laptops.
We are always going to want to advance our needs and end up attempting to utilize
all that VDJ has to offer; so a laptop is simply NOT the way to go.

i.e., You can ride along with the Hell's angels in a moped and still get there, but eventually you will get tired of creeping along, and then comes your first Harley (and better be a good one, as you soon find out)!

I started with a laptop 'cause i already had one, as soon as i purchased VDJ (and I am a very simplified DJ/KJ), I was looking to build my own shuttle so I could do what I want with VDJ when I want. Which is what we all want to do eventually, no?

Also, you can spend over 4,000 dollars on a great laptop, but 2,000
worth of shuttle PC can get you the same and even more, been there done it!

Ofcourse high end laptops are more expensive then PCs, and rightly so. If you are a club DJ, there is no way you'll drag around a PC, monitor, and a keyboard every weekend to a different nightclub. Not to mention, there won't be room for all that in a DJ booth. It's already enough of a pain to setup my laptop at some of the clubs.
If you are just doing a home setup, or your own parties, that's a different story.
New Core Duo 2 laptops with X1600 or higher video cards now cost around $1.5k and will outperform a large portion of new PCs out there. I hardly think they qualify as mopeds... Portables are the future.

Honestly i thought duo core was crap cause all a dj needs is one strong processor for your program(HyperThreading). Now this quadcore is just ridiculous. Who's gonna run more than one program at a gig? A dj that's gonna get a crush. That's who. Of course this is just my opinion.:)

well a suggested feature iv seen recently in the new features forum

of vdj , is rewiring to other aplications such as reason that would probaly benifit from this

other possible uses:

you could be on msn and mix

you could use frapps better to record video better

you could record a mix being broadcasted in the backround

helps scan tracks better

id imagine it would help machines running multi instance or video funtions

Yesterday I've bought an Asus G2P laptop. First impression is good. The next few days I'll be "playing" with it and I'll let you know how it works.

That thing is huge. Do you plan on traveling with it?

Inviato Thu 30 Nov 06 @ 9:29 pm
Not for traveling. Just mobile djing.
