Whenever I load a cd track onto the non-active deck or save a track to MP3, the playback of the active deck slows down, the sound quality degrades and often I get a digitized distortion. I have p4 1.6ghz and 512mb ram

The track is analysed as it is coppeyd off the cd and this can lead to an overload on system rescources causing there to be insuficient performance to properly play back a song on the other desk. Changing the thread/process priority of virtualdj.exe in task manager helps on some systems i have used.

a CPU overload would result as a one second "loop" in the playback, not as distorded sound.
So I think this is an hardware issue.
Try to change your IRQs.
