Topic: 320 kbps?

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

Hey guys, I'm rather new to Djing but have spent the past year building what I think is a pretty solid collection of dance music. The problem is, most of my music is music I have found on the internet on blogs and only about 25% of the songs I have are sampled at the dj standard 320kbps. I've tried to track down my music through "pay" services like beatport, but I simply can't find my music anywhere. I'm willing to pay for everything I play, the problem is no one is willing to sell me obscure MSTRKRFT or Megasoid remixes at 320kbps.

So, I guess my question is: am I screwed? The music I have ranges from itunes 128kbps to 256 and so on. My music does not sound like something I got off of limewire; the bass is full and hard hitting, and trebles are crisp and clear. However, will my music fall apart on club systems much louder than my own? If anyone has any experience with this problem or has any advice at all, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
holden

You'll survive on club systems, likely, depending on the system.

I can speak from my own experience. I have been collecting dance music since the 90's. I have some stuff that I looked high and low for, couldn't get the original album for, and settled for a download. When Napster first came out I used it to collect nearly impossible to find remixes from companies like Disconet. Disconet remixes were hard to find on vinyl, all though I was able to purchase a few here and there at second hand record shops.

Anyway, my point is that there are club mixes that are hard to find and sometimes you have to settle for 128kbps which isn't ideal. If it sounds super crappy - well, then you can't play it. But if it sounds passable, and not compressed, then it might work. You have to use your judgment. I have a good amount of 128kbps songs that are suitable for playing, and I have a few that I have gotten that are not. It's just the way the cookie crumbles....

Anything that is new though - you should definitely be getting legit mixes for - join a record pool or something like that where you are either getting the vinyl or CD of the remixes, or a legit mp3 from the label directly which are almost always in 320kbps. If you are club jock, it shouldn't be a problem joining a record pool....but I can't comment on how easy it is for aspiring DJ's to join. I am sure pools like 8th wonder aren't that picky? Not sure...

Overall I guess I would say - shoot for 320 - but you might have to settle sometimes....for 128. Always use your ears though...if it sounds like crap, don't play it!

Solve your problem with this, I swear buy it and have converted pretty much all of my 192-256 files to 320 http://www.platinumnotes.com/

Wow! You can "convert" a 192 /256 to a 320?
Please expain this process, I have got some 128 crap I'd love to "convert" to .WAV

I look forward to your response. :0)

thanks for the help kkorpos. It's good to know I won't be the only one spinning songs at 128kbps, cos when it comes down to it, I'd rather be playing a song that I worked hard to find that absolutely kills it than be playing something I stumbled across at high quality on beatport.

As to the bitrate conversion... wouldn't that detract from the quality? Any time you do anything to you're music... burn it to a cd, compress it, convert it, the music is being resampled. How does this program work?

Where I come from, It does not matter how good she looks, she's still a ho. Rupaul looks better than most women, but he still has a .... well, it's still a he. No matter how great a song is, if it sounds like shit, well it sounds like shit. Most of our clients can't tell the difference in bitrates, but they do know when a song sounds like shit. Especially, if it is their favorite song. I am of the belief that if a song was that great, it can be found at the bitrate that you want.

Re: Platinum Notes making files sound better, isn't a re-encode a bad idea in any case?

You can't upgrade the KBPS of a track in real terms.

You will end up with a greater file size, but the lost "bites" can not be recovered, the larger file of 320kbps would sound worse than the 128kbps "original".

I agree, you can not return, what you do not have. When you ripped at a lower bitrate, you threw away that info, you did not store it away in a drawer or closet, to be retrieved at a later date. However, I don't know shit, and maybe this is some new Chris Angel magic, that I don't know about.

tmontana1311,
Here a simple illustration:

WAV - The King
320 KB -The Queen
256 KB - The Prince
192 KB - The Princess
160 KB -The Royal Cook
128 KB -The Jester

Below 128 would be grounds to have you "Beheaded" :-)
(And there is no program that can turn a Jester into a King, once a Jester always a Jester.

nicely put! also most dj programs work better with CBR than VBR as constant bit rate is more predictable for cues and scratching.

As some have mentioned, you can NOT turn 128kbs mp3s into anything higher. They can't be de-compressed, you'd just be creating a bigger file of the same quality, or if anything degrading the file. It's pointless and costly (with regards to hard disk space).

I like this, and you are right that 128 can not become a wav. However, the Jester can become King. All he has to do is puck the Queen, and kill the King. Even if he doesn't kill him, he will feel like the King every time the King is with one of those wenches. Who do you think the farther of the Prince is? Aaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahaha, where do you think the cheer "God Save the Queen" came from? Aaaaahahahahahahahaha, puck the King. It's funny you mentioned "Beheaded", because that is what I was yelling to the Queen, "Behead Me. Behead Me". Aaaaaahaha, (hold it, I have to catch my breath), Aaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahaha, I got your Jester right here, Your Majesty. I even had his crown on, While I was doing it. Say it, Say it, "Puck The King, Puck The King".

PS, Sorry Tayla, and Jimmy I got carried away.

Please step away from the bong sir.

Ah, The Queen has a smiley face. My work is done here, Gentlemen. "The King Is Dead, The King Is Dead". All hail the new King Richard, A Man & His Music. "Silence, my first proclamation as your new King is, Kill All The Jesters". From now on, all Jesters will be female. No Lesbians, can't trust the Queen. Gotta watch my back, and keep my bitrate hard, I mean up, I mean high.

You still got it, man, LOL!
