Opinions are nothing more that personal views or beliefs, and may not contain any facts whatsoever. Everyone has opinions, and on this forum we should respect each others opinions, no matter how much we disagree with them. I listen to others opinions, but am smart enough to do my own research, and make an informed decision. On this subject, the only fact is, "use what works for you". I carried a desktop since Red was released, and used them until Dec 14. All internals, and some removable drives, when I shared a computer in a club. No problems with drives being removed everyday, inserted the next day, travel from here to there. I can't remember how many times I dropped my desktop, or banged it against something. I got an ASUS laptop in Dec, and have a 256 SS, and 1TB internal installed. I have 3 2TB externals, with a 7 port powered hub (2 ports are for charging). This is my decision, and it works best for me. When I want to help young people, my main goal is to teach them to think for themselves, not to do what someone else thinks is right. My opinion may not work for them. So, if your opinion differs from mine on this subject, it's irrelevant to me. It's your opinion, and I can respect you for sharing it with us. However, it is not a fact because I and many others know differently. I thought we could have a debate, without insulting and disrespecting each other, I was wrong. My opinion; external drives are just as good as internals, but you should use what works best for you.

When I was doing mobile, I was using a 17" MBP with a 256 gb SSD along with an external 4 tb hd (2-2tb HDs) with a raid 0. I've had this setup for 5 years and have never had a problem. I have a separate 2tb HD for backup along with a separate 15" laptop for backup.
At the end of the day, you do what works for you and you make sure you have proper backup.
Cheers,
Nick

I use my 1tb internal hdd of my laptop, I always carry in the bag a backup with all the music, but only in case of "disaster", this is an usb 3.0 external drive.
I additionally always carry in the bag a "ghost image" of my laptop's hdd, if the original hdd starts to fails, I only need to extract it and install the backup, this operation takes 1 minute and only requires a screwdriver.
I don't like to use external hdd's to load the music for several reasons, but the most destacable for me are:
- I don't trust in external drives (I'v seen a lot of crashes, power interrupts, etc...)
- I don't trust the persons near my dj gear (heeey dj! put this song... oh! what's this, is your hardisk??? "crasssshhhhhh!!!!!!")
- External hardisks are bit slow in comparison of internal drives, ok, ssd are great, but I prefer internal drives.
It's my opinion...
