A believe its just a matter of time of a video download service being available. My contacts at Screenplay have informed me that Promo Only and Screenplay are both looking into license issues that need to be paid so this service can be available to us vj's. I just think it going to take some time for the details to be work out.
A Man and His Music.
I will move on now, I will just say that smart ass remarks could easily discourage non license users from purchasing the product. In most cases they are just researching about the product. Now If they are asking for skins, and other feature available to us as pro users, then we know that they don't have any intension on purchasing. Still the best response will be to say nothing.

i heard screen play is going to court for releasing mixes that they had no business too. Don't know the truth behind it though. just curious if anyone here has heard.

Funkturnal,
I will check with your resources again. Screenplay in on the up and up just as Prom Only is. The only people that are going to be taken to court I believe is VMS/VMExchange. I unfornately am one of those customers that got burnt by VM Exchange. But I can stand behind Promo Only and Screenplay because I have nothing but good things to say about these vendors.

Definitely bootleg btw.
Angel, SP has had some remixes that are off the path of what PO has offered meaning there may be more to that story than we know.

It may be off the path, but I will assure you that it is with the label permission. I'm know that they have use a few ultimix tracks in the club series. But I believe they got consent from the labels.

Well...as far as mentioned above...I have well over 100 posts and still am not a licensed user. I dont own a cracked copy or a demo. Ive been patiently waiting for the MAC version to get right for 8 months. I enjoy spreading knowledge throughout the DJ community, thats why I participate.
Ill check out the site. Im in a ton of record pools. Thats what DJ's do, give and take. I got a ton of mad remixes and mashups I trade with other DJ's. Music labels get enough of my money. If I paid for every single track I played I wouldn't be able to eat. If the quality is good , im in.

C5...The mac version is out you know....
Angel,
Just how can you assure me or anybody is the question.
You "believe" they got permission.
VMS looked as legit as hell too, love their stuff btw.
Even a full blown booth in the shows, without licensing thats either big big balls or pure stupidity or both.
I know the people at PO really well and also their strict policies on licensing.
Tell me how a company like PO is not willing to take the risk of mpeg but SP is....
A company like PO who is the leader in promotional music and video in this country can't but SP can...
Sort of makes me wonder, how 'bout you?

[quote=If I paid for every single track I played I wouldn't be able to eat.[/quote]
I eat very well, and have paid for every track I own. That's what DJ's do, they either get promos, or they buy their product. All the pools I have ever been in, charged a membership fee, and you had to give feedback. So that is not free. If you want to justify your behavior, that's OK. There is no difference if you put a CD in your pants and walk out of the store. You got a product and did not pay for it. There is a term for that.
As far as promo companies go, I have seen a few Ultimix remixes on PromoOnly DVDs, and know they got permission. I have a few VMS DVDs, and I to thought they were a legitimate company. PO would have had them shut down in a minute, just as they did with TM Century way back when.

How does Tricerasoft get away with video downloads: I believe they have it set up that you have to be a software user @ 50.00 for unlimited downloads.

I deal with the director of Screenplay and he has always been straight up with me. I know that Promo Only has been around along time. But so has Screenplay, they are not going to put out a product that does not meet regulations set by the labels.

Okay... time for me to step in.
1) funkturnal. You "heard" Screenplay was being sued? Screenplay is not being sued. I should know. I handle licensing issues now for the entire network. All remixes that come from Screenplay and Promo Only are label approved well before release. Their audio beds are approved by the labels as well. Fact is, neither of us require any further clearances as the labels own it all at the end of the day. We both do our own remixes , and sometimes share them. Both companies have been around too long and frankly, have long standing reputations of playing by the rules to sidestep them. So what you "heard" is wrong. A chat board is recognized as free speech, but it doesn't preclude slander. Rumors are terrible. I "heard" that some people pose as DJ's to hype their own products on other people's chat boards. Wow! Can you believe it?
BTW Rick, I'm surprised you would also alude to something that you "heard" without checking with me. You have my number.
2) If you buy a product that does not come from either directly from Promo Only, or Screenplay, or an authorized distributor and it contains either of our logos on the chyron... you can very safely bet that it is indeed an illegal bootleg. Period. Also, both Promo Only and Screenplay watch each other's backs in this regard and advise each other as to any misuse of each other's products.
3) Video is really very inexpensive compared to what it was like a number of years back. Back then, mobile DJ's weren't even allowed to buy it. We worked very hard and changed that. Both Promo Only and Screenplay are active competitors, who also work hard to provide working DJ/VJ's with legitimate product from the widest selection of artists and labels possible. But I suposse there will always be people looking for a cheaper solution and a shortcut. Unfortunately however, there is a thing called mixture of assets. By that, I mean that if you by the slightest chance happen to be caught combining illegal material with legitmate material on your system.... you leave yourself open for problems. Are they likely to occur? Possibly not. But for the sake of saving the cost of a six pack of beer, you leave yourself open to them.
Nothing is more scrub than a VJ with MTV logos all over his videos, when he's up against someone who does things right. Kind of like a VJ mixing with a basic Windows Media player and not taking advantage of what Virtual DJ has to offer.
Last) Both Promo Only and Screenplay provide product to legitimate end users only and are only too happy to provide demos to the same. Just ask us and check our respective web sites for our terms.
Questions?
Ask either one of us.
Both of us can be contacted through our respective websites.

Well - now - that was an impressive psot.
If Mr Howard is still cruising the site:
Can you provide any information on any Upcoming video download service?
I am in Canada and have actually never heard of your company other than on here. Promoonly operates an Audio download store ( www.podds.ca ), and according to the nice saleslady in Calgary, Video is trying to get online as well.
Any information would probably be enlightening.

I cleary stated it wasn't a fact....I was curious to find out the story behind what was said because I get some of my vids from jones tm which is supplied by screenplay.
The only objection that I have to your post is the mtv logo thing. It would be scrub to play a track thats old....I can agree with that. But playing a new vid from mtv or bet before its available on dvd...I would consider that not scrub but a dj thats ahead of the game. Some djs don't have direct access to the labels for vids....so they do what they have to do to get them.
I know I used to be all vinyl until I started getting requests for tracks that weren't pressed yet. But its playing on the radio & cdj dj across the street is playing it. So guess what I & every other vinyl dj had to do or finally wake up & eventually do. Get those mp3's.
Its the same thing with the vdjs playing logo videos. Its on mtv bet imf etc & people will want to see it, if they know its available. Especially if your the only club in your area that mixes videos. They''ll be expecting it.
If u don't agree then sorry....this is a matter of opinion.
peace
