Topic: Locks up on first song - Page: 1

got a problem, I used VDJ for almost a solid year with no problem, then about two weeks ago, it started locking up after I loaded the first song or two... after restarting once it would work fine, but the next time it took two reboots and then four, So I thought it was the computer, I loaded it on a backup unit and it is doing the same thing. VDJ can be sitting there after a song has loaded and idle... CPU at 90+

Skyfxl suggested like the forum to clean install 5.0 (latest version) I did and it caused more problems. Cues would not transfer, etc.

I have been very pleased up till now. This is my living 4 to 5 days a week and a big wedding coming up. Need to get back to what was working ... I welcome your suggestions. thanks Michael in TN

just an update,
I installed the same version that is giving problems on my two laptops... On my desktop and it isn't freezing... the auto mix short cut isn't working ... there is no force fade option.

Could there be something that is common to my two laptops that might be different on my desktop... My laptops are actually faster than my desktop.

Shows start tomorrow. Thanks for any help. Michael
 
Update 2,

I installed 5.0 on the second laptop , loaded a song, it took forever (well really about two mins) I looked at my Cpu usage at 97+ % . I went into my video settings and Deactivated my window , which was showing my karaoke lyrics. The Cpu, dropped to 22% , I activated the window and cpu jumped back to plus 97%. I'm really trying here guys.... I have really enjoyed the program but something is wrong. Please help.
 
OK, What are the options set to in the Video tab ? What is checked and unchecked ?

Also, can you give me more info about your setup... specs ? Video card specs ?
 
Cstoll, thanks , the settings on my main dell laptop, 2gb ram, 1.7 processor, 80hd,its a Gforce 128 video, XP professional
settings for video... are as follows. I am running 4.3, because i started having problems with the 5.0 VDJ. It would not get my cues and Playlist. I had no problem with 4.3. Also in 5.0 the Alt/ Space keys would not mix to my next song. I do believe there are some good features to 5.0 but can't risk not having it for my upcoming shows.

ok now the settings. use hardware accelleration. Linked crossfader, activate on load, Hide logo. those are my only settings.
I hope this helps. I did discover that on the second laptop, the video card wasn't the best , it was a monitor output 15pin (like a computer monitor) I'll buy something newer.

PS., Skyfxl told me to keep three files to copy back to folders , so i would have my playlist, cues. etc. I had no problem with 4.3 but could not find the files to replace in 5.0. thanks again for your time.
 
 
OK, so let's clarify some things --

You are back at 4.3 ? How did you go back to 4.3 ? Also, are your problems now with 4.3 OR were they only with v5 ?

Also, Please select the Decode while Hidden option in the Video tab.

Please visit the Download -> External Tools and download the Registry Tool.

Cstoll, I went back to 4.3 because i lost my cues. and had five shows coming up the next six days. I uninstalled 5.0 , I did use the registry cleaner tool. and reinstalled 4.3, there were a couple reasons.

One, my cues and playlist, were very important.
Two, it had been doing a great job for the past 11 months and I was used to it.
Three, some of the more important controls to me were working in 4.3 Like Alt/space to mix (my karaoke) where as nothing happened in 5.0

My problems were with 4.3... originally. I then upgraded to 5.0 hopefully to get rid of the freezing, but it presented more situations and I didn't have time to trouble shoot with such a hectic schedule. Its Now 4:13 am and you can tell I am still concerned and looking forward to solving this situation. I used my main laptop tonight and thought it was going to work fine, until i hooked everything up and played the first song to test the sound, It played fine, so i loaded the next song , it loaded quickly ( I was excited ) Then when i searched for the next song to add to the list.... it jumped to 99% cpu. I let the song play out , went to a cd and rebooted... I took my time and it worked fine the rest of the night. One strange thing was while the VDJ was just sitting there, not playing a song, not searching for a song , both songs loaded... it was still around 40% CPU

I will look tomorrow and select Decode while HIdden. Thanks for all you and the rest are doing. This is the reason I paid for this program and recommend it to others... the help!!

Hey Skyfxl, will I be able to use my three main files to keep my cues and playlist in VERSION 5.0?? thanks
 
There is a reason we are at version 5. There have been a lot of fixes since 4.3. You have 3 machines, so at least one of them should be able to test 5.0 rev 5. I know you are under the gun, but you need to just stick with 5, and get it to work. Going back and forth, with different versions, from machine to machine, is like running in circles. So, lets try to stick to one machine, to see if we can get that to work.

I just want you all to know that I'm trying my best to take your advice and apply it. I have found out that by going into keyboard short cuts and changing the Alt/ space which was mix (which did nothing) ... to Mix now no sync , has corrected that one problem. Please allow me to work on version 5.0 on my desktop to familarize myself with it as I learn... I just dont' feel comfortable this particular week with a big schedule including One of my main accounts Owner getting married... can't lose that one haha.

I just wanted you to know I am trying so hard. thanks for your support. I will take your advice and apply it but as i said , i need those cues and playlist for now and as i learn how to move them to 5.0, I will install it back on my laptop for my shows. thanks again. I know that the support team is working overtime and has put a lot of thought in 5.0. I just hope to utilize its efficiency. Michael
 
Michael, I am not trying to steer you one way or the other. It just gets kind of confusing, at least for me, with so many computers in the mix. If we can just take one machine at a time, I don't care which one, the smart guys may be able to get you up and running. As it stands now, I can't remember what was wrong, on which computer. Again, I understand you are under the gun, that is why I am trying to keep you at the front of everyones mind.

I am working with a problem, the problem was thought to be in a piece of hardware, being a computer, so i installed the same software on two compatible computers. With the same results... so it much be in the software aka settings. This happened radomly after a period of 11 months of success with program. I have done, virus scans, registry cleans, defrag, to try and illiminate such problem.

You have given some suggestions on how to overcome the problem on my laptop , (the only laptop I am using) which currently has 4.3 installed. I will try these and as i learn about 5.0, which I investigated till around 6am this morning has a lot of info involved. I will then upgrade to 5.0 and with your help, transfer my cues and playlist and begin using that version.

Just a tip, Michael...Before you perform the upgrade, be sure and become intimately familiar with page 6 of the V5 manual. There is extremely important information there that you will want to know before the upgrade! For example, in the case of external drives, you must have your entire setup connected or V5 will not correctly build the new database and you could be in for some trouble.
 
thanks for the advice... I had read that already but really appreciate info just like this. I will refer back to this thread to learn more , so any other bit of advice are appreciated as well.

Is Vista solid... I've heard quite a few horror stories.
 
So have I. That's why I use XP Pro, hehehe.
 
I use both. XP on my on my gig machine, a 3 year old desktop. Vista on my new laptop. I still have not tweak my laptop, as it was bought as a demo machine, and backup unit. It runs video perfectly, I just have not had time to get the Gigaport AG sound card set up yet. There are quite a few success stories with Vista. That's why I would not chuck it until you have tried EVERY fix.
 
i have been told to get a clean version of xp pro, to use instead of Vista (which uses alot of resources)
 
selected decode while hidden in video , loaded the song, it played , went to search for another song.... loaded it ... The machine Froze... cpu usage went to max... the song continued to play but there was no control otherwise. Just an update. I'm on my way to a show now... Hope it will work. Michael
 
I just trying to give you all the imput i can , in hopes it gives you insight.
Tonight, I loaded the first song, and went to look for a second .... cpu went to 90 , it ranged from 25% to 99% . I rebooted , loaded one , played it , loaded a second... and was waiting for the first to end.... the cpu went to MAX. I was doing nothing. , Third time... I didn't even load a song... and it MAXed out and froze.

Here is where I hope I did something right. In desperation ... I went to RESTORE... I went back to a time when I was not having a problem.... about a month and a half ago ... it took about 10 mins (while singers waited ) then i ran the program the rest of the night... it locked up one time and seemed slow to load songs but it continued.

Just an update. Any thoughts are welcome... Michael
 
Have you checked to see if your computer runs that much even when VDJ is not running in forground.
