Topic: iTunes 7.7 and id3 tags

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

I recently upgraded to iTunes 7.7 on my white Macbook 2.2ghz. Now all my id3 tags are messed up. Part of my music library is in iTunes and part of it is a generic folder. The id3 tags are fine for all the songs in the generic folder. However, every song that is in iTunes has the id3 tags messed up.

I can search for the song and the song title is displayed, but other info like artist, disc, track number etc. is now gone. This additional info used to be displayed in the browser window along with the song title. However, when I right click on the song and select file infos, the window that pops up has all the id3 tag info below the corresponding box with the circled arrow next to it. I can click on that circled arrow button to add the info. This is very time consuming and I would prefer not to have to do that for my entire iTunes library.

The current version of id3 tags is v2.2. I have tried changing to older versions (v1.0, v1.1) and the newest version (v2.4) and have re-scanned my iTunes folder with no luck. I have also deleted the database file and re-scanned the hard drive to rebuild the database. This did not help either.

Any one else having this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix?

only way i've found is to turn them into mp4a files then the tag data comes back.

I will do that if that is the only fix.

Is it known whether this is an iTunes issue or a VV issue or something else?

DJ Cyder,

What software did you use to convert files from MP3 to M4A?

I used itunes, it took several weeks to convert my collection.

I did a test and converted a couple files to AAC/m4a, and now I am getting most of my tag information. I have info in the "genre" field in iTunes and that data is not coming through. Title, artist, album and BPM info is there but no genre. Even if you right click and go to file infos the data is not there to add.

Help! This is really getting frustrating.

While on this topic. Are there any better audio management applications that integrate with VV and are comparable with iTunes?

Me too. At first I thought it was due to the number in the title (ex): ' 03Kissing Whales', but then even after I removed the trk# in iTunes, still missing tags. I also tried the "convert to" work around, but it didn't work for me either.

I just downloaded 7.7.1. It didn't help.

I trashed the com.atomix prefs file. Although I had to do the serial# again, I re-read most of my iTunes tags with the exception of aiff(artsit, and bpm), and some CD genres.
I had also trashed the Vdj local database .xml file, but I really don't know if that affected the results.

djkenelson,

Thanks for the reminder about the .plist file. I deleted the .plist file and the VV database and re-scanned my external hard drive and it appears everything is back to normal.

In fact, I remember reading a post that "skyfxl" responded when you have weird problems like this it is a good idea to delete the .plist file and start fresh again.

Thanks again djkenelson!!

You're quite welcome!! I wish I had read the "skyfxl" post before I did all the stuff I did. I even went back to the LE version this morning. I sure wish we had a better instruction manual. This will be for another post, but now that I got the basic idea of how to work Vdj, I really need to get help on the more intricate operations such as video etc.....
BTW, when you deleted the database, did you find it again? I cannot find it anywhere.

It seems that this is to do with an obscure fault with itunes 7.7 because it has affected several softwares strangely perhaps they have changed the API.

I will check this out further and get back to you.

skyfxl,

Thanks to you for your great resources and information. I just wish I would have remembered the .plist file trick 3 weeks ago.

Looks like you are investigating this further. I know you will post your findings once you have them.
