Wow...lots of flame reading there....
The reason is simple yet complicated with everything else being moot.
People have a favorite and they stick with that. I was that way with a software company and I DID CRAP ON VDJ. At the time it looked like a toy software that would never become anything. Well I have said it before and will say it again...I am sorry. I take it back time and time again and to Jason..yeah you told me so! Now moving on....
The problem is that we get used to what we are using and stand behind the brand because we believe in them. Just like vehicles. I was a Chevy guy growing up because that is what my dad liked. I bought an F-350 dually and was hooked on Ford. a Few Ford models later and I now have a Dodge and love it. When it comes to software we look at demos and give things a shot but for the most part we do not spend the time necessary during that trial period to get accustomed to make an educated decision. With VDJ it is tough. It took me downloading the demo onto three different machines over several months to learn enough to make the leap. It is a lot to suck in. I think most people look at it as being too much. I mean...if you are using Serato you can't possible use VDJ for more than 4 seconds and say it is lacking features. Yet people are stuck to Serato because it works for them. But down deep why did they even try VDJ if they were happy? Why are they even looking around at all if it is what they need? That is because they need more but don't want to admit it and have to justify themselves for staying with what they are using. I am sure there will be debate in that but it is true for many...I know because I was there. If finally came down to it being clearly put in my face that VDJ was the way so much so that the brand name I backed went to the same code. It doesn't make them bad by any means but it woke me up.
Is there better software out there...well yeah..but it depends on who you are. If you are someone that has to have a brand name hardware line standing behind the software then VDJ is not for you right now. If you are someone that wants software for $99 then VDJ isn't for you either. If you are someone that feels that if it is not the most expensive product on the market then it is not the best you guessed it.. VDJ is not for you.
The plain truth is that VDJ is competitively price (cheap IMO) and has more features for the money than any other product for our use in the world. The sad part is that if you find a software that has many of the features of VDJ it is a hack copied from VDJ. VDJ has hit the top and is trend setting. There is nothing we can do about people knocking the product as there will always be someone. When they wake up you will see professional edition user under their name.
...back to the beat....

Very well said here.

Although I hate to agree with Paulheu,
I think I do in some respects, in that VDJ is everything to everybody, so development can take any turn at any stage and leave some waiting for things longer than others, and for a user who specialises in one area they may feel that they 'their' part isn't getting enough attention.
VDJ probably is the best software for mobile DJ's who have their hand in everything, but a lot of Club DJ's want a dedicated club software (that's basic in interface and function, like SSL), with no KJ support, no Automix, and sometimes no Video support etc.
As for VDJ being a VJ'ing app, it isn't is the answer to that, it's a DJ software which supports the playback and manipulation of video files in the same way as you can an audio file, of course it could be much expanded upon to become an all singing, all dancing VJ program, but all that development time would leave the majority of DJ's (audio only users) in the dark for quite a while.
This is my opinion if the subject is "why does VDJ get mouthed", but if we are going to talk about the unique merits of VDJ then that's for another thread.

VDJ rocks! ;) end of story! hehe
It gets bad-mouthed because of the past (atomixmp3, old default skin, website, looks etc).
And all that is changing.. I hear great stuff about VDJ from very high circle of djs, ranging from Dennis Ferrer, Coldcut and so on...
If anyone is still bad mouthing, they havent paid much attention to last years development..
VDJ has grown up, has a nice gui, and works in a very professinal way, to the degree where competitors (PCDJ) and hardware leaders (Numark) have embraced it.
Those still caring about past bad mouthing, are just that... caught in the past ;)
Even most SSL users take VDJ very serious by now...
VDJ is by far, the industry leader... in many regards.
There are still things to be done, to improve, but its come a long way baby!;)
There will always be those who have loyalties to other programs, and have other prefferences... .And good is that.

I don't understand why this "record case" is such a big deal? What is it? That stupid little picture of album covers that pops up when you are looking for songs?
So I am curious... what other apps are you claiming are better that I obviously haven't tried? Please enlighten me and maybe i'll try them.

Basic ID3 support at best, limited search features, not customizable at all. Basically a filebrowser.
Skinning is not what I ment, It's the feel of the software itself that just does not feel right with me. Again very hard to put into words and
As far as video goes right now I use VDJ, but as said will probably switch to Serato for that. Non video gigs are either Serato if installed on location or djDecks if I bring my own gear because I like it more and I can use my own audio interface (RME HDSP RPM)..
Again I think VDJ is very good and getting better, but there's just some stuff it does not do (well) which I use/like want and find in other software.
Like: extensive looping, ASIO mic input, proper recordcase with ID3 search, interactive scriptable skinning, multicolor waveforms, msPinky support, record directly to player, remote loading/playback of tracks and then some..

Yes VDJ does rock.... but the fact that high circle of dj's you keep mentioning whenever you defend your employer does not extend beyond the SAME four or five dj names - says volumes.

Well, doesnt matter what star djs use vdj ;) What matters is that YOU guys use VDJ ;)
If "the others" choose a different software and bad-mouth VDJ, well, that says more about them, than it does about us ;)
