I was using Traktor.
Then I boyght dac-3.
I couldn't use it with Traktor.
I bought VDJ.
I am stuck.
I love it.
VDJ forum is my daily newspaper.
I am addicted to VDJ.
Check out the user map. All you see is a small island (CYPRUS) and only one flag . MINE. So I am happy to say that I am the only DVJ in my country.

The music I play and love ( House ) 12 years with vinyl and now with VirtualDJ does not require me to do this, in actual fact if I was to scatch over the tracks it would sound so wrong, so wrong.
To me it's all about the mix and trying to get that perfect mix I worry about.
I will give credit where credit is due, Scatching is on art form, but it not the be all and end all for me.
So please don't go on about scratching. DJ'ing is not all about it.

Could not agree with you more Jimmy, I compare it to golf. some golfers can drive the ball off the T with authority, some are awesome at putting. The ones who can do both are the elite of the game. Doesn't mean a golfer cant enjoy the game just because he can't hit the long ball. VDJ can be used for both. Scratching, as anyone who heard Listen2's session last night on Thumpin' Thursdays can testify, and long smooth blends. Its a great tool for ANY DJ.

there'r some "real" heads who dont even scratch. what is a dj if he cant scratch? how u gonna have tts and not be able to scratch...
if u have tts and can scratch well with perfected skillz then maybe u cann talk... but if u cant hold it down whats the point of bad mouthing a software...
the guitarcenter guy told me he likes serato coz of time coded vinyls... lol. this is a "real" head that WORKS at guitar center which also happens to sell CUE. dude just dismissed vdj like it was lame. he said if u like that video stuff get vdj. then i said do u know serato and them are working on video too? he got very excited!

The main issue is VDJ is not promoted hard enough so that everyone really knows what its all about. VDJ has been called a toy before, so from that point on most will refer to that "label". Those "labels" are very hard to shake off. I will say VDJ is as serious a dj tool as serato, any real head can see that if they have used it. I will never tell anyone what to buy nor would i take anyone's opinion that works at GC because they are salesmen. Do it for yourself and research the pros/cons of whatever it is you seek.
Just because you scratch does not make you an artist and just because you play music does not make you a dj.

Personally, I've not got to read all of this thread, but Gang5ta makes a lot of sense... Even if ye don't want to admit it. I'd of said a lot of similar points I guess.
It takes a long time to get people to trust things. Serato etc had honed into the market thats going to be proud of displaying their prowess with technology, VDJ got into the crowd that are more interested in showing how cool they could be with the effects and were badly mixing things from the get go, even when automix made it simple to get a great start on doing it right.
There was a time when I would only use VDJ in my bedroom, I bought a license just to have a way of playing around without having to take my equip and set it up after I'd been out gig'ing... A media player of sorts I guess. The actual sound was rather poor, definitely not what you could use in a professional environment where you were planning on getting paid.
Nowadays, the sound engine has really come on a lot, the entire app has become a lot better, its working seamlessly with a long time. It's kicking ass so to say... Unfortunately, the bad rep is already out there, its hard to change peoples opinions of things until they bother to prove themselves wrong. Having people that sell these softwares in stores bad mouthing it because they don't know any better is unbelievable, are they seriously thinking that VDJ is inferior or are they just sadly part of the fanboy culture that want to be part of the in crowd, where they agree with those that they see as being superior to them, wanting to bring that idea into work is wrong imo and they need to change it. VDJ is now perfect for professional work. Get with the real DJs soft and get with VDJ.

i agree, gangsta has very valid points, im behind him. however, im not sure about this 'vdj badmouthed' but. anyone want to equate what exactly that means? if you mean a few noobs complaining it doesnt make their toast, who cares. serato has alot of bad rap as well for its shortcomings.
P.T Barnaby once said 'bad publicity is good publicity, because its publicity...'. i think at this point, unless you have product marketing knowledge and experience, go back to your cheerios and milk because you dont know jack.
this is a game of marketing strategy and dollars to back it. rane is a big company with a big budget, atomix is not. that atomix can come up with a fantastic product that alot of us pros are backing with vigor and spit, is one thing. making it a household name through media blitzing is something they cannot do in the same manner as rane. dont mistake this people, this a david vs goliath scenario.
i think a more productive thread and discussion would be 'what can atomix do to make up for the fact that serato is a household name and every dj in the world knows about whereas few know about vdj?'

Here are a few more reasons:
1. VDJ is associated with “microwave dj’s” –90% percent of the forum – you know , the cant beat match, beat matching is overrated , you can do more creative things with your set if you didn’t waste time with beat matching bunch…..
2. VDJ really did suck in its early stages.
3. VDJ teamed up with Numark, a company which also bad reputation with reliability. If they collaborated with Denon or Pioneer, they may have had a chance.
4. People are sheep.
5. The same dj’s are on a few different boards – so most times it’s the same bunch of guys hating.

Your wrong about Numark"s reliability. I have had several pieces of equipment, one mixer in particular for over 20 years, that have served me extremely well over a long period of time.

xgl_dj,
many of us can beat match just fine, I learned it in mid 80's , but the technology evolved and your take makes it like if I have to drive from Chicago to LA and I know how to do it on a manual shifter, I’m not a real driver because I choose to drive an automatic with cruise control, all this beat match dispute is sooo lame, like I said it before the most important dj skill is to read the crowd and keep them entertained, this is the definition of a dj , a performer, an entertainer, unless you play for a joint where Djs hang out, and you have to prove yourself, anyway I never saw a club with an "only djs allowed" sign by the door, so if you play for a normal like club venue with normal people you should know that they appreciate the music, the chorus that they can remember, the light show sync, the whole ambiance, the mood and the energy of a dj, his choice of music and then the flavor of effects and mixing skills.
It is a sure think that if you miss match the beat transitions of every great song and cut it in the middle of the chorus they are going to give you the look and eventually booing you, but then you really are not holding not even an ounce of dj essence or you are very drunk or pist on the club manager

I've been doing this since the mid 80s..some nights I beat match...some I don't. Never really noticed a difference in the floor. It is the music not the DJ that drives a dance floor. Lets not forget, we are not the stars, essentially all we do is press play. True a good DJ can get a better response than a bad one. But I have known DJs who have been in business for longer than I have and never touched their pitch sliders....and these guys are booked when ever they want. They read the room and give the customer what they want. THAT separates a good DJ from a bad one....the rest is just window dressing.

What is this DJ " I'm better than you because " crap.... This is how pro athlete get into trouble because they reach a level of skill so they think they " I'm better than you ". I can scratch but to say I'm a bad DJ because I choose not to. I like having the crowd interaction. VDJ is works great for me and my clubs likes what I do with the sound and visual. Hell, one night I took off on a friday night with some friends and went to local joint... Saw that the DJ was there using traktor. I introduced myself and watched him perform. He did some rely nice mashups but I can tell he was inexperienced because he did not read the crowd very well. You can tell this by how the crowd responds to the music. He found a winning song but did not play it through because he was too busy showing off his mixing skill so the floor emptied alot until the next good song came along.
We all can use any of the programs or eqp if your willing to spend the money. Serato seperates itself with the cost but does the same thing as the other depending on what your going to use it for. It may be the name that's causing the reputation " virtualDJ ". It doesn't sound powerful like TRAKTOR or Final Scratch OR maybe the box is too colorful, unlike SSL greyed or dark with little to no pictures.
It's all how it's been marketed.

It doesn't matter what reputation VDJ has because for people who do video... VDJ beats the shit out of every other program out there. And frankly... video IS the future.
There have been a number of occasions that customers have seen my setup in the DJ booth if they walk around to talk to me. Some people look at the laptop and they are like WOW... how do you sync the music to the video?
Others are a little more experienced and have heard of VDJ or maybe even used it. That group will come up to me and say "Is that VDJ?" or "What program is that?". When I tell them that it is indeed VDJ they are amazed mainly because they never knew VDJ was that robust (like playing video). Those are the guys that probably have the illegal copies at home because if they actually shelled out the cash for it... they definitely would be more inclined to get to know every feature that VDJ has to offer.

I didnt make up the term - "microwave dj". But it compasses a mentality that is found a lot on this forum. If you can't beatmatch or can beat match but choose not to- that is your choice. But of OUTSIDE of this forum it is usually frowned on -by other dj's. There have been several threads on manual versus atuo beatmatching already.
I was only pointing out that the so called "microwave" mentality is one of the reasons people hate on vdj & its users.

I've said this before and I stick by it; VDJ is good, it tries to do a bit of everything and by doing so does not excel at anything.
At it's core the sound quality has come along way, but is audible of less quality than most other DJ apps I own/use. I mentioned video, the record case is IMO a joke still and IMO it's GUI feels a bit off to me, it is something I honestly cannot put into words and I guess it's mostly a personal thing, but I prefer the feel of other apps. I like what Serato is doing with video and where they are going. I also like their GUI and program feel better. When their video plugin matures I expect to switch to that..

I don't understand why this "record case" is such a big deal? What is it? That stupid little picture of album covers that pops up when you are looking for songs?
I really hope that's not it because I find that to be one of the sillyest features VDJ just put in. Do people really use this? The only purpose it serves is utilizing virtual memory. It does nothing for me... so I turn it off. If I want to hear 50 Cent In the Club... how hard is it to just type CENT in the search field and quickly drag over? I don't get it I suppose.
So I am curious... what other apps are you claiming are better that I obviously haven't tried? Please enlighten me and maybe i'll try them.

Am fed up of logging on to this forum and finding all these 'so called' experts who r taking the shine off this software coz 'in their opinion' its not living up to some other software. I've had this thing for a while now and anything you can do as a dj, video or audio I've done and think it more than handles its own. Talk about the interface- u have the option of different skins or even for the really hard to please, u can make one for yourself.. talk about stability- this shit is updated every so often as soon as they find some new crash error or glitch....I think its naive to think that all software would be similar and if u use vdj and serato then whatever each one has and the other one doesn't is each one's flaws and plus's u r a fool. If they r similar then they should merge and we can all be using seravirtual or virtuarato or whatever they decide to call it. Remember competition is good, not bad....its what's making them update all the time and re-releasing 'new' versions, so if you come here to bash instead of debate and inform then fuck off! Where's funkturnal......I miss your topics bro...say something...spread some knowledge or something....
