i just got my turntables a few months ago to try and get into scratching a bit... right now i have my tables running through my hercules MK2. For some reason my scratches seem to be very "electric"... i want a good scratch sound but it sounds very techno-y ... when i through some real vinyls on the tables the scratches sound a little better but still i feel like the scratch sound is a pretty high pitch... is there a reason scratching with TCV is horrible with VDJ however i see videos all the time of people using serato TCV and it sounds great.... is it the program that doesnt support that great of scratching or is it my settings?

There are two factors to take into account to make a digital (by definition) scratch, and make it sound as real as possible (analogue).
The main one is latency... the soundcards asio latency. The mk2 does not provide good latency, unfortunately. But not too bad either.
Try this to make it work as good as it can :
1) Make sure your soundcard is running in ASIO mode
2) In VDJ performance setting, make sure you have set latency to auto
3) In VDJ performance setting, make sure you have set quality as value for scratch sound.
Now, tweak the Hercules control pannel, and see how low you can go on asio latency...
Try also to check (turn on) the ClearSound in VDJ timecode configurations.. This will enable HiFI scratch sounds, but not all PCs can handle it.
Lastly, you can experiment with some alternative drivers, instead of the native Hercules ones.. Try www.asio4all.com
These are great drivers.
If all fails, and you arent satisfied with the sound, unfortunately you have to invest in a better pro soundcard

which sound card do you feel is best.
I am kind of in the same boat.
only I have not purchase the tables yet.
I was thinking about getting two tables this week. Also is there a turn table you recommend?

No mate, as long as you have got a half decent soundcard VirtualDJ will do a pretty good job for you.
