Ok this isnt as bashing as it may sound. It is just a reflection and a challange. Excluding technology how far has the art of djing advanced? I remember seeing coldcut doing thier video stuff almost 10 years ago and it seems that they are still doing the same to this day, Also turntablism has not advanced much either. I am just saying is there no new frontier? No new direction to head? is it just technology that is making things easier. I would think and hope that with technological advancements we would be on a new cutting edge of djing/perormance/entertainment by now. But instead we are still in the whole real dj's use outdated methods argueement. So what do you think?

Agree to a certain extent.. DJing is pretty much the same as it always was.. :)
But your example with Coldcut kinda gives one new frontier, and thats adding visuals and videos to the mix... Coldcut is pioneers again, in this new territorry, making fantastic shows, where the dj is a multimedia artist...

Thats Ok Sir, we don't really pay much attention to Norway anyway. He is like Ralph Wiggums...everyone is nice to him but we all know he is "special"...
"Me fail english? Thats umpossible!"
if you dont stop this nonsense, you cant be moderator here (dj in norway)
just having a bit of fun...now you think your the forum police??

yeah good point sirkitbreaker ;)
They did similar stuff way back in time, but not live..
Live djing with videos and visual images is a new trend for sure.
As well as live mashup/remixing, such as Deadmau5 and others, that use Ableton and MAKE music live (not crossfade tracks)
But for almost all djs, djing is the same today, as it was before... tru that :)

Some things just don't need to change far from their roots. If it aint broke dont fix it. To make change for change's sake (like mashups) is not progress but actually regression.
I suppose a lot of it depends on what you define as to what a Dj really is, because a lot of things "Djs" do now is really producing rather than Djing, the only difference is the technollogy allows it to be done in real time live rather than in the studio so where do you say you are a Dj and when are you a producer?
What would you like to see happening when the core of the Dj's job has not changed. It is still to keep the crowd happy, drinking and dancing. When it comes down to it the music itself has not "progressed" and some might say has even regressed in the last 15 - 20 years so where are we to "improve" since the media we use has been regressing.
