hello this is my first post, hope you don't mind me asking your advise
I am just putting together what I plan to buy and I want to use vbirtual dj with timecoded cds, i was looking for a soundcard interface that would accept rca phono connections... BUT.. I would like to be able to play normal cds through the soundcard, is there such a function? is there a product that allows you to miss out the laptop either with wires or with a button / switch.
peace.

Yeah, VDJ allows bypass... But there is also soundcards that allow bypass in hardware..
A good solution if you want VDJ, plus a good soundcard and timecode vinyls, might be to check out the package deal from Numark (with VDJ included) called Numark Virtual Vinyl..
or you can buy the software of this site, and get your vinyls and soundcard seperately...
Good cards would be Maya 44 usb, U46DJ and so on...

Or if u on the budget and want everything in one unit(soundcard, mixer and controller) take a look at the herc mk2 or rmx etc.
It will come with the djc/le edition which at the later part u may upgrade to vdj pro with a discount;)
PS: The soundcard is a mid range one but it will do the job and it will let u bypass too;)

cheers for the response, i have been playing with demo version on VDJ, my first thoughts are that I want the bypass in hardware, I am right in thinking if i had laptop issues i could switch to cd quickly then?

yes, bypass can be used as a "backup" if you have pc issues..
But if you have to close down the pc, you really need Y cables... (splitters)
Beacuse the soundcard (usually) runs only when PC is on...
Some souncard/controllers allow "offline" use, I think the Hercules RMX does...
Anywas, Y-spitter cables solves that... You can have timecode signal go to pc soundcard, and real cd sound go to mixer.
And switch at the mixer for what input to use (from PC or from CD players directly)

The M Audio conectiv will do exactly what you want. I need to run my gig pc with a UPS though as the conectiv seems particularly susceptible to power interference.

Hi DJPR
Just interested - are you running conectiv with vista? what country? Have you never had the issue where vdj stops receiving timecode from the conectiv? Still keeps playing but you can no longer control it until reboot.

I'm running xp, i've never had that issue. The only time that happens is at the end (12 seconds i think) of each timecode track ( i burned six of the 12 minute timecode tracks) on one cd but this is normal on smart mode. Also, i'm using the v4 timecode engine. I'm in Orlando, Florida. Oh yeah, USA...
