Hi Mate

The best figures to look for are power handeling in Watt's RMS (Route Mean Square) and sensitivity SPL (Sound Pressure level) usualy shown as X amount of db (Decibels) for 1 Watt at 1 Meter.

The power figure in RMS is a recognised standard for comparison.

The sensitivity gives you a comparison figure for how loud the speaker will be (How good it is at converting electrical power into sound) for an input of 1 Watt if you listen at a distance of 1 Meter in front. Look for speakers rated at 95db sensitivity as a minimum. The higher the figure the more noise it makes for the same rating of power amp.

Recently some manufaturers have been quoting a maximum SPL figure in db which tells you the absolute maximum volume the speaker will produce at its rated power.

Beware of some of the cheapy "Disco Boxes" around. They are cheap for a reason. They may provide power ratings like "eleventymillion Watts" music power /100W nominal. Dont trust em. Ime shure everyone has seen portable cd units in the shops with 500W Output plastered all over them. These figures are not realistic.

Happy hunting

Sorry mate answered the side question first.

Samson kit is what it is. Reasonable budget gear. Dont like seeing power figures quoted with no spec, as per previous post. Others do better. Dont laugh but for a decent power amp that will not cost the earth Try out the Berhinger EP2500 model. Its cheap as chips but bomb proof.

Got a bit more cash go QSC RMX Or My new fave, Crown. BTW Dont be afraid to look at QSC Crown or even Crest as potential used purchases. These manufaturers give a 3 to 6 year warranty on there amps because they are almost impossible to break.
