Is is best to do it in VDJ? Or rename the file? How are VJs adding the data to the tracks? Thanks!

Personally i would rename the filename. eg - Britney Spears - Circus.vob
Two reasons - 1) VDJ will use that and display it perfectly.
2) If for whatever reason your database is deleted or some other problem you will not have to rename everything again.

I full agree with djtouchdan - the most important thing on every media u use is the correct filename.
It's the same for mp3 files. I have renamed all my mp3 files and then use mp3tagger.de for id3 tagging
all my files with a few clicks.
Whenever i lost my id3 tags or my database i just need a few minutes to retag them from the filename.
By the way - i think there is no way to include any kind of title information in the vob file because it's just
a virtual container for the mpeg stream and subtitle informations.
Greetings from germany,
Heiko
P.S. For easy renaming a huge number of files i have made a tutorial on my homepage. Maybe you take a short look:
https://www.virtualdj.com/homepage/jakovski/index.html - It's in the Blog section at the end of the page.
If you find it useful - please post a short comment. THX

There is a programmer in Atlanta that is working on an auto renaming program that will batch rename your files (assuming you have them in the original order from the DVD) and it will include the ENTIRE databses from Promo Only, Screenplay, ETV, MixMash & RockAmerica. The first version which will initially be for Promo Only and Screenplay DVDs should be done in a week or so (I hope, I have been beta testing for him and it is really close). It will work with any video file format (mp4, vob, mpg, mpg2, wmv, etc.) since it only changes the name and nothing in the file. You will be able to name them in any convention you like from ANY of the data supplied in the databases. This means if the Promo Only database includes time and type of ending (fade or cold) you will be able to include this info into the file name. Your names can be as complex as "ARTIST-TITLE-VERSION (MIX)-BPM-TIME-COLD-YEAR-MONTH-SERIES.vob" or as simple as "ARTIST-TITLE.vob"....you can decide what data to include or exclude.
If there are any features you guys would like in a program like this also let me know and I will pass it on. Also he has not decided on a price yet so what do you guys think a program like this would be worth to you to spend?

Add the ability to SKIP chapters, ie. in PO there are the intros (I dont rip these). Dont know if it is possible just throwing it out there and if he needs more testers, would be glad to help out.

It's not a ripping program, just a renaming program. Most people skip the promo only intros when they rip (which of coarse saves all that time ripping them in the first place)....but I'll sent it along.

I see the "Artist - Title" format imports well. Thank you for the tip!
Should I leave the file structure the way it is? :
Best Of '80 -'83 Vol. 2 Title 1 (Ch1 - Ch46)
VIDEO_TS
Or just put the VOBs in a folder (removing the VIDEO_TS folder)?
Does it really matter?

I Use DVD DECRYPTER to rip my VIDEOTRAXX videos to a VOB file. Under MODE select IFO. On right side of DVD DECRYPTER under DESTINATION, select a destination folder where you want to save your VOB files. On the left side select INPUT. On the bottom of the INPUT you will see the CHAPTERS with boxes with check marks in them. Right click on a chapter and click on SELECT NONE. This will clear all the check marks. Now just select a chapter that you want to rip and put a check mark in that box. Now on the right side click the button that looks like a DVD to HARD DRIVE. It takes about 30 sec. or less to rip each video. After you rip the video, go to the destination folder where you saved it and delete the VTS STREAN INFORMATION and the VTS.IFO and rename the VTS file with the ARTIST and TITLE. Do the same for the next chapter and so on. Make sure you uncheck the previous chapter so you don't rip that one with the next one. I hope this helps. VDJ is a great product and this FORUM rocks.

Don't need it to rip, just need it to skip those files that I skipped when ripping, make sense??

I think I see what you mean. It is set up to title straight down the data base listing....i.e. The promo only chapters will show about 60, but the database only shows 40 videos (40 files), the other 20 are the short intro sections most people don't rip. The program is set up (currently) to match the 40 actual videos in order on the database with the first 40 ripped files in the folder....where i can see a potential problem is someone that RIPS the intros then there will be 60 files in the folder for a given DVD, but the database only lists 40 titles so it be off by one title each time it encounters an intro.
I will let him know he will need to make sure that is clear in the instructions to DELETE or move the intro files from the folder.....also promo only does not list the ambient files on the database so in the first run of the program you will need to make sure the ambients are the LAST three files in the folder so they will not get titled as a video or move them to a seperate folder.
