Hi Everyone.
Does anyone here just use the Denon HC4500 on it's own with virtual DJ or do you need an external mixer because of the crossfade. What about previewing tracks before going live and mixing capabilities.
Many thanks

Hi dude - there are quite a few users here, do a forum search as there are quite a few threads covering these questions already. I don't use a denon mixer, just the allen & heath one in the club. The 4500 is excellent for mixing but you need the JP Boggis custom mapper to explore the full capabilities of the unit

The HC4500 is ideally designed for use with an external DJ mixer such as Denon X500/X900, which also allow video crossfading.
It is possible to use it without a mixer, but it is not ideal. The mapper has a mixer mode that allows the internal mixer to be controlled, and the pitch slider can be optionally toggled into a volume slider. Pressing buttons or moving controls on a particular side of the controller will automatically change the active deck to that side for headphone pre-listening (Using the 'Headphones' option in VirtualDJ's CONFIG.)
NOTE: You cannot plug headphones directly into the HC4500 (Atleast not without an adaptor) - It has RCA phono outputs only for connection to two channels on an external DJ mixer.
A better choice if you do not want to use an external DJ mixer is an all-in-one controller such as Hercules DJ Console RMX. This has a mixer section that can be used to directly control VirtualDJ's software mixer (E.g: Crossfader, separate pitch and volume sliders, gain/bass/mid/high, etc.)

Thanks for your post. I have already an Xponent mixer but I was very interested in The Denon It looks like I will be keeping the Xponent for a little longer as I cannot justify spending another £700 to £800 on a new toy

Hey jpboggis,
How do you set up video crossfading with the HC4500 and an X500? Do you just plug in the mini cables between the units and it will automatically work with your mapper?
I am planning on getting into video and I thought video crossfading was going to be a problem with my setup (HC4500 + X500). I checked your mapper guide but couldn't find anything on how to set it up.
Thanks!

To video crossfade using the Denon X500 or X900 mixer, you need to connect the cable between the HC4500 and the mixer and then enable it on the HC4500:
- Connect the X-control cable between the mixer and DN-HC4500 (This needs to be a normal stereo 3.5mm jack to 3.5mm jack cable.)
- Hold down the MEMO button on the the HC4500 to enter its built-in preset mode.
- Turn the parameter knob to choose X-CONT XFD
- Press the parameter knob to edit.
- Turn the parameter knob to change it to On.
- Press the parameter knob to save.
- Press MEMO to exit HC4500 preset mode.

Thanks! I'll give it a try.
Man, I can't seem to do an effecitve search on anything since the VDJ forums changed the way the search function works (about a year ago). Am I missing something?

i have problem with the sound card they dont recognise the controller hc4500

I am looking to get the 4500 this week to replace my broken CD player in my second system. Now that I know it can hookup to the 500 mixer to control crossfader, I have to get one of them so that system can also be a second video setup.

Hi Everyone I hope you all had a good weekend.
As you all know I now have the HC4500 and i'm using the mapper supplied by jpboggis I sometimes use the sync function in virtual DJ but I have noticed that when you push the tap button on the controller it does not sync with the track playing. Can anybody else confirm this, and if so is there a way you can fix it. Or it maybe something that i have missed on the controller.
Many thanks

If the 4500 is nativley supported, what is the difference with the jpboggis mapper?
Inviato Sun 10 May 09 @ 11:25 am
Hi thanks for your reply the jpboggis mapper has more functions available than the mapper supplied by Virtual DJ that is what I think
