Hello everyone, I am having a issue recording my mixes with Pioneer DJM800 mixer. I have a master out and rec out in the back of the mixer itself. I am using master out for my amp to my speakers. I use rec out with rca's and plug in the mini-jack to the mic in on my laptop. In VDJ, I use line in with my laptop soundcard selected.
When I record, it is distorted. I lowered the mic slider from the control panel on the laptop and the sound is still distorted. Today, I bought 1/4 inch to rca and plugged them into the booth out. I get less distortion but my highs and mids are not coming thru very well. What am I doing wrong? Any help is always appreciated.

You can try to lower the volume of MASTER LEVEL of your mixer and check the MIC BOOST checkbox of your sound card is OFF.

If its like the 700, the REC OUT works kinda like a SAMPLE OUT or LINE OUT on other mixers and yeah, it is way hot for some reason. Use your booth out and then you can adjust it to being as loud as possible without clipping.
Also recording using the AD convertors on a laptop soundcard which are never that flash but you should be able to get it sounding good enough with what you've got provided the laptop can adjust itself for a line in signal which is much lower than a mic signal. Some only want to see a mic plugged in and that might be the issue. Is there a line in option on your soundcard mixer?

I figured it out by using the same method as my old mixer, duh! Booth out to external Soundcard in, Rec out to mic input on laptop and master to my amp for my speakers. Very simple and easy. Thanks to all that helped!
