Online backup can be a bit of a mixed bag.

I personally do not like the idea that some one else has my data and I am relying heavily on them to protect it.

Did you know microsoft does a free storage service as part of windows live?

Online backup is a wise idea for people that are protective of their data. I recommend to alot of my clients that they use online backup as another means of data backup. Usually copies on disc, external drive or NAS, and online backup is always safe.

As for the comment above about not trusting your source. When you backup online, your information is Encrypted and cannot be read by anyone on the site. Usually they use 256bit Blowfish or comparible encryption, and is more safe then haveing passwords and thus on a flash drive or external. The above commenter also makes a good point. Relying on one site or person for backup is usually not wise that is why I recommend using more then one method for complete piece of mind. Remember, servers like Mozy and Carbonite And Live Sky Drive etc... Have servers upon servers with many instances of raid for backup so even if something fails on their end they have backups of backups as well.

I have used Mozy personally and I like it. It is easy to set up and runs in the background to keep your stuff up to date.

If you are looking for a means to back up your music collection though, I would not recommend it. Bare in mind music can take alot of space and to backup 100gigs of music could take many many weeks. Online backup is more for sensitive data, documents, important photos and maybe those important remixes you produced yourself. You can however back up your entire collection online but that just sounds silly.

Windows live Does offer free storage up to 25GB, and if your not using it for foolish stuff EXAMPLES(music or movies) if u hit the 25gb limit they will continue to increase your storage beyond the 25GB

mozy won't read (see) your external drives so what's the point ?

also it will take a long time to upload your trax if you have a lot ......i only have 20,000 and it was gonna take days

what about this one

http://www.carbonite.com/

50 bucks per year no matter how much you back up seems like a good deal too.

how many days would it take chuck to re-rip 20,000 tracks :)
