Hi all,
I'm in the need of a small portable setup, with the minimal of hardware to drag around.
At the moment i hardly move my gear since i think it's too much a hassle to move the decks and mixer and keep reconnecting um. Just not good.
What i do want is to turn my laptop into a portable mixing station using VDJ just for some living-room mixing when i go to my mates.
I will not use timecoded media, and will mostly mix from mp3, to minimise the amount of hardware to drag around.
Since i'm new to VDJ + hardware i have some questions and require some advice.
Soundcard:
Would i just need 1 external usb soundcard, or would it be wise to buy a fancy one?
Controller:
Idealy i need something that controlls the VDJ-software, and allows some advaced mixing (important to have high\medium\low faders instead of only the main fader)
Mixer (iif above not possible):
If above is not possible can i do it with a seperate mixer, or will this limit my possibilitys and maybe even eliminate VDJ ?
I dont really care about the price or the brands, but cheaper is always better aslong as it doesnt effect usability. Also i dont not need any pro-sound but atleast it should sound fairly proper for use on max 250 Watt (100 RMS) systems in-house.
I think i'm willing to spend 3 to 400 Brittish pound\euro, and i'm also willing to get certain bits secondhand. So what are you guys using, and what would be a good pick for my situation ? That is hardware only, on top of that i will prolly need a basic VDJ licence?
Thanks in advance !

I would recommend taking a look at the Hercules RMX. It is small, durable, and plug and play compatible with VDJ. Also, take a serious look at the Omni Control from Numark. All of the same qualities the RMX has and a better built in soundcard.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I dont want to start another "XX vs XX" thread, but after lots of browsing i think i have 2 options left that i might consider buying.
- Hercules RMX (will have soundcard build in ?)
- Numark TotalControl (will need seperate soundcard ? )
Yes big price difference between them, but my main focus is usability, not durability or sound quality.
So for these 2 products is there any difference in how they control VDJ ? Or will they both control the same options in the software ?
Also i will still need a VDJ license, but i think both products will include a copy of VDJ.
Cheers,
Kamaradski
