Hi all, I have been playing with my Hercules MK2 for some time now, mixing mainly progressive house/house and some electro stuff. Which is still a lot of fun.. I normally just listen out for the strongest bass, match/cue it up and get them synced well.
However I realy love big beat and break beat stuff such as:
Junkie XL
Fatboy SLim
The Prodigy
As you know, the bass drum and snares are a lot more varied and this makes it very difficult to mix.
Can anyone reccommend any tips or reading material I can research to learn how to mix/build a decent set in this type of music?
Ultimately I would love to be able to combine a little bit of everything when I have house parties etc.
Your input is greatly appreciated!

There is no cook book way of mixing music D'n B and break beat usually follow the 8 beat- bar type of pattern. Study the tracks you are planning to use in your set and figure out where a good segue can be made. In some Dn'B styles, the producer sometimes skip a snare or two to make a staccato like rhythm but it still follows the set BPM of the track, just do an imaginary snare in your head while cueing this type of track. D n B tracks and breaks needs to have the exact BPM when mixing because of the profound snares and bass. Practice before performing to avoid an easy train wreck. I use the channel EQ a lot during transitions (a technique I developed for my self)
