I just found out the card slot in the side of my new (newly purchased but introduced in January 2008) Fujitsu laptop is a PCMCIA slot (actually a PC1 and a PC 2 slot). I have an Echo Mona sound card that has a PCMCIA interface.

This is a REALLY nice soundcard (1 space rack mount 8 in 8 out really high specs, balanced and unbalance outs for each channel) with excellent sound.

I currently run the laptop sound using the USB interface in my Numark CM200USB mixer...I will get an occassional put or click in the sound and don't know if it it the soundcards in the numark, the software or the fact that the USB is running both sound channels, my hard drive, my wireless mouse and 2 led gooseneck lights.

Just so you know I do almost exclusively video.

Would it be better for the efficiency of the computer and software if I started to use the PCMCIA sound and freeing up the 2 usb ports for other things like maybe a DMC2 or a Hercules Steel controller or is it better to just add a usb hub for some of the gadgets and then put the controller to the 2 internal USB ports that would be freed up.

Does the sound going through the PCMCIA "lessen the load" on the USB ports with all that stuff on them? Just wondering if all that stuff on the USB ports will eventually degrade performance especially when I add the controller?
