hi all first post here so be gentle on me i'm a new user to virtual dj, well not purchased it yet but got it on trial/test i'm currently a pcdj vj user, but now as pcdj have dropped vj i'm considering moving over to vdj i got to say i love the features i.e clean databases, automix that is far superior to the vj one and the sampler my only concern is the lack of 1440x900 skins as my laptop is a 17" widescreen now i know nothing about skinning i'm the first to admit it so if i was to purchase the full version would there be someone on here that could do a resize for me? (i've used skin resizer tool that i got via the pcdj forums but does not work on all skins).
my other concern is i put vdj on test last night and after about 2 hours of autoplay loaded a karaoke track and halfway through got the blue screen of death rebooted and everything been ok since, left it on autoplay for around 9 hours then got video freezing issues and slow performance, shut down vdj and re started it without a reboot now all is ok again so i suppose my other question is about the reliability of vdj all of my above testing was done with video/karaoke not audio
many thanks for any replys in advance

Hi & Welcome!
There are a few 1440 x 900 skins coming through, and the newest version of the skin resizer tool works well. I use Vmix 5.4 which is 1280 x 800 and it is more than adequate for displaying everything, especially video.
As far as video / karaoke reliability is concerned I can't comment as I purely use audio, however there are a lot of threads about video issues and from what I read it is dependent on the video card and a good lot of cards in laptops are not up to the job.
The new version of VDJ is being beta tested at the moment, and although we don't know what's in it I would guess there will be a lot of improvements on the video side.
May be worth waiting until the V6 demo comes out and try that.
Keith

PCDJ VJ was a licensed product from VDJ...sort of a lite version of VDJ in a different skin so I would imagine that if your PCDJ VJ was running fine on your current laptop VDJ should also. You may need to tweek some of the settings.
There is a slight freeze problem that a (seemingly) majority of users have when new videos are loading, but it is a random problem and nobody has been able to come up with an across the board fix and it does not seem to be too dependent on video cards as some suggest because it is just as much an issue with very high end card as it is with the shared intel graphics accelerator on most lower end laptops.
That being said VDJ is still BY FAR the most stable of the video programs out there once you get all the settings dialed in. Search the forums and you will find multiple threads on tweaking the settings (I have found most notably when running video make sure in configuration your performance slider is set all the way to the left....this helps IMMMENSLEY with video).
I run video exclusivley 4-5 nights per week and the only crashes I have had since version 5.2.1 came out is the random search bug, but if I avaoid using the search I have no problems except the slight video freeze on some videos. It was mentioned on this board that the dev team is now aware of what causes the search bug and they will be fixing it (hopefully in the 6.0 upgrade).
For video try Supacons Video Vision 5, I think there is a 1440x900 skin in his pack. I use the 1280x800 and it is a fantastic skin for video (and audio as well) and Dj format has some very nice skins (His new VMIX version 4 is going to be awsome for video).

thanks for the replys so far i'm aware of the search bug as we currently have it in pcdj vj but it does not really cause me any issues and of course the slight video freez when loading new video's we also have that in vj although i find in vdj it's not as bad as in vj, i've been looking around at skins and do like the v mix 5.4 and the mix lab 3 skin so hopefully there'll be a 1440 version of these, as i foound with vj skins if they are small res and you up them to higher res short of adding borders they do become a little blurry

Kev,
I would be patient for right now and enjoy the trial to see all the features you would gain over the PCDJ VJ product.
The 2 products are fundamentally identical - PCDJ VJ has a 'reduced' set of features from the full VirtualDJ product and you already identified a few .. the sampler and the Playlist (btw VirtualDJ also does the automixing just like in PCDJ VJ using the 'WaitList' or what we call the 'SideList')
Also, if you copy the PCDJ VJ skin to the My Documents->VirtualDJ -> Skins folder you would be able to use it <- if you want to stay with that look.
As pointed out above there are the addition plug-ins, skins, effects, etc that you would gain from the VirtualDJ license. As to your Karaoke issue not sure what may have happened there could be coincidence and timing of something else on the system. Deeper discussion would have to happen to understand why.
But enjoy the trial for right now in evaluating all the other things and know that you are already using a majority of VirtualDJ's features in your PCDJ VJ product.

For me it happens as soon as I try to type in something in the search bar (like the first kestroke of an artists name....sometimes just a curser click on the bar). It is very random. I have gone 3 months without it happening and then once I had it happen 3 times in one night! Some people never have it, go figure. On my new laptop I went the first 2 months without it happening and I though maybe I was now a lucky one that didn't get it and then two weeks ago it happened 2 nights in a row.
If you don't use the search bar there doesn't seem to be any problem
Awhile back someone form the dev team responded on the forum and if I remember right they did say it woul dbe one of the fixes in v6

I use to have that issue too, but thought it was windows related. I eventually re installed XP to clean up my computer's overall performance and *knock on wood* no problems since. I was also using all 4 usb ports for hds and my dj i/o & total control, so I think that may have had something to do with it. I cosolidated my HD's and stuff so everything is pretty much in 1 location. I agree I hope 6.0 will have corrected this. Just my 2 cents

Same problem with the "search bug" here. Keeping fingers crossed for 6.0. Over the past two weekend a few bugs reared their ugly head on top of the search bug. I had two sound freezes. One was during mother son dance!!
I also crossgraded from Reflex and PCDJ VJ. I didn't get a deal, I just ponied up the money.
