You can now create two Filter Folders to help you out ...
UTILITY FILTERS
Filter string -> insearchdb=0 In my database but not in Search (Hidden from Search)
Filter string -> ispresent=0 Entries in my Database, but not on disk (Error: files) files deleted external of VDJ but have an entry in the database.
pg 22 in the V6 User Manual

There's a new utility filter that will list files in your database but hidden from search. Create a filter folder with this: insearchdb=0 and it should list them for you (page 22 of user guide).

That "present but hiden from search" doesn't make sense to me. Could someone explain it?
How do files get in there to start with?

Because people added the files to the search then at some point removed them from the search ....

I am having a problem where songs (only ones that are contained in virtual folders) randomly dissapear from the search database. Of course the one's in virtual folders are the important ones. I do the whole fix, recurse... thing and they may show up for a while but before I know it the system is back to hundreds of songs that are "present but not in the search database".
Is there a way to disable this feature or lock the search database?
Last week one of my guys was DJing a wedding and the first dance song was one that dissapeared. It showed up two days before when we were preparing. Luckily he was able to download the song to his iPhone.
I''ll try the new filter feature at least for backup.

I have found one reason, how you can make unwanted "present but hiden from search" files...
If you are browsing an older playlists or history with some deleted, removed or renamed songs, or directory with some no longer working *.lnk files, these songs are automatically added into database as hidden!

So it appears from the above discussions that this "hidden file thing" is NEVER of any harm as it ALWAYS is about files that are never used or needed anyway. That was always my concern.
Can someone tell me if the statement above is absolutely correct?
If so, I'll never have to think about it again. :)
