Hi mate

Depends on the size of house but the JBL EON series are a safe bet. dont expect mind blowing bass out of any small self powered unit even with a 15" bass driver the cabs are just too small to produce the realy low stuff. Mackie and QSC also produce powered units that you might want to audition.

My budget is about $1300.

Please check these out ... I just bought a pair and for the price to do a simple house party (small spaces) ... they are very nice ... may not have the big names (JBL,Mackie, etc) but they are well built.

1300??? that is quite a good budget... i suggest you actually get a pair of these 12s - the new QSC k12s.

1000watts, powered. Tons of inputs. Just came out. New tilt stand feature.... amazing.

just check it out on youtube.

I have the Mackie SRM-450's. They have 12" drivers but I think they sound better than the JBL 15" speakers.

Maybe the Mackie SRM450V2 can work for you.

These are 12" not 15's

True, speaking as someone who owns 15 inch Peaveys, and the SRM450s. The 450s are louder, clearer, lighter, better in every aspect, even though they are only 12 inch speakers. This forum is full of knowledgeable people with years, and in some cases decades, experience in sound reproduction. Never rule out an option offered up here about sound........

I am another SRM450 user and these things are awesome. Unlike the competitor you can crank these as loud as they go and they still have awesome fidelity.

Also if you were doing a blind listening you would think these are 15's, they have very good bass response

Note about the Matrix system:
Sounds bad turned up to what its potential is quoted and does not look as professional as Mackie's.

Djvande, maybe you should look at my system and compare with what you've heard or seen on your own or whoever elses Matrix system, because I have all Pioneer gear including their best mixer, the DJM-800 as well as a dbx DriveRack PX EQ and BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer and I can't turn it up enough!!! Even when my mixer is screaming in RED it sounds friggen awesome. The only time I get distortion is when I use it outside, and there is no good acoustics out there and even that's only when it's turned waaaay up. The look is also very professional. I have mine on black ProLine stands and the sub on the floor and I get compliments all day and night on looks and sound. I have multiple speaker arrays to choose from and these are the ones I take with me to nearly every gig. I have owned and used a ton of other speaker & amp/powered assortments in my years in this game, over 25. These can keep up with the best of them unless your talking thousands of $$ in higher end stuff, but who needs to mobile with that stuff?

Maybe the Matrix system you heard was connected to a crappy system, or the acoustics were all wrong. Many novice and even experienced DJs don't know how to dial in their sound systems properly, I know because I'm an audiophile and can spot anomalies in sound that most pro's couldn't catch or discern from another sound.

Come to one of my shows and tell me that to my face, I'm not challenging you to a fight, I'm challenging you to listen to my gear in full operation and tell me it doesn't sound bomb as hell!

BTW: The pictures I posted do them no justice, they're like me, they look better in person. lol

Hi peeps,

Rather than start up a new discussion I thought this might be the place to ask about SPEAKERS..!

Very different from the original guys question..(with a lovely budget)

I have a real small budget and I am looking for a set of small speakers for my lounge

I don't play at parties (not yet) so something straight forward would do the job (reasonable quality will do for now)

I'm not sure if I should get powered or passive speakers?? Your advice would be really appreciated

I have a Hercules RMX..

Excuse me if this is all a bit basic but I'm new to this and not up on all the tech stuff (yet)

Many thanks in advance

Well first question, what is your budget!?

Also, do you want the largest/loudest speakers you can get in case you want to start doing parties, or do you want something that's not as loud but better quality?
