Topic: ATTENTION VJ/KJ's, I'm having a problem and need help...

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

Hey Everyone,

I work at a nightclub where vids/ambients/karaoke are played over a video system. 2 small screen lcd's, a large (36 inch?) high def screen and an 8 foot projector screen. The s-video cables to all video sources were professionally installed (behind the walls) and a video distribution/amplification system is being used. I am having HUGE problems with poor video quality.

I individually hooked my laptop up to each of the screens used for video with crystal clear quality. However, when I connect the laptop to the installed cables I get crappy viveo quality. It kinda looks like the video equivalent to ground loop noise in audio systems. The owner of the club swears that he at one time had great vid quality, and that it has to be the distribution system. This MAY have some truth behind it, as the large LCD screen seems to have a "halo" or ghost image. However, the fact that when, without the distributor/amplifier I still get crappy vid quality.

A little "history" - He was using the RAM AV400SV 1 in 4 out distribution amp:

that unit had a drink spilled on it and it fried, now he has a Radio Shack equivalent until the new unit comes in, which brings us to the present situation.

Is the RS unit causing the interference and loss of video quality? If I connected the video source (laptops) directly to the screens and got great quality, but then, even without the distributor, hooking the laptops to the installed cables that go to said screens gives crap quality - What's going on? Has anyone had a similar experience? Any remedies?

Hi mate.

I suspect the following: If all the screens were behaving pre the change of the distribution amp then thats your first and possibly only issue. The check you did by plugging the laptop into each screen confirms that all the screens are good. I believe the reason you get a crap picture when hooking into the individual screens using the installed cables is being caused by the cable length. The video output on your laptop will only provide a clean signal over fairly short cable lengths 2 to3 mtrs at most. The distribution amp splits and amplifies the signal to ensure the screens all get the same level and quality of feed. My guess is that the RShack item is just not up to the job. I have also come across this problem if the cables to the screens are daisy chained and a screen cable is left disconnected at the screen end. This can cause reflected video signals within the cable and can generate the ghosting effect.

Good luck

Hi mate.

If you can start a new post on this subject more people will see and be able to respond. Try to give us as much detail as you can on what you want to do.

ditch the s-video and use vga with a splitter box, the reason you are getting poor quality is a drop in gain when connecting multiple items. S-Video isnt very forgiving

V good point but I think he is stuck with the installed cables. VGA or proper componentRGB will always out perform SVid for shure.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the replies so far. We think the RS distribution amplifier is amplifying the signal a little too much. I found the same model he was using before online, so I am just waiting for him to order it to see for myself if it makes a difference.

Nice one.

Hope it all works ok for you. Let us know how you get on.
