I have watched the video tutorials on here and still not quite 100%
Basically, if i buy a soundcard and link Virtual DJ to my decks. If I press buttons on the screen, will they also control the decks? for example, if i press sync on the laptop, will that beat match the songs on the decks?
Also, do both my cd decks have to be the same decks? or can i run 2 different cdjs? for example a denon for channel 1 and numark for channel 2?
thanks

Its the other way around.

You have a special CD in your cd-players with a computer signal (timecode), that you can download from this site for free.
When you press play on the cd player with this cd loaded, and have the Cd-players sound output connected to your soundcards line-in, VDJ will read what you do on the cd-players

So if you press play on the CD player, VDJ will start play the song, and output the music (mp3s) to your soundcards output (that you can connect to a mixer)

And yes, you can use 2 different brand of cd-players at the same time..

cheers mate!

also, when linked to decks, if i press the auto sync button on the laptop, will that match the 2 songs for me?

no, pressing Sync will not beat match the songs for you, all it really does is get the BPMs to match (atleast as far as I have been able to tell) and if you start a song on both decks it will also match up your "beat markers" to the nearest ones on the opposite deck. but a word of advice, the beat markers aren't always on point with the beats of the song. your best bet is to actually beat match by ear. dj-in-norway did some really good tutorials on mixing and beat matching in the music section I believe it is. check them out.

but again, to answer your question, the sync button will not automatically beat match the songs for you.

but it will make the bpm the same, as it does when you just run it normally on the laptop? i was only really wondering if it still worked when linked up to hardware with the decks

You can still do anything on the software, no matter which method of control you use. Your decks will not override the software.

yes... It will.

When controlling VDJ from real CD players, you have 3 modes to select from, one being absolute control from the decks (no software aids), and one being so that any software clicks will override the cd decks.

In this last mode, sync, loop etc etc in software will work, even if you control the software externally from cd players.

:)

thanks very much guys! i really appreciate it. I think im probably going to have to buy it now :)
any the only hardware i need for my decks would be a soundcard right? any good ones to recommend?

You need a soundcard that has 2 stereo inputs and 2 stereo outputs. And that can run on asio drivers.

Lots of such cards, for example Hercules DJ Trimm, U46DJ, Maya 44usb etc.

Or you could get a package in your favorite DJ store, that has VirtualDJ Pro + the souncard + timecode CD's.
This package is sold by Numark, and is called Numark Virtual Vinyl (the software in the package is VirtualDJ re-branded for Numark)

Hope that helps ;)

yeah, that looks good ;)
and maya44 is a good card for timecode CD use

Nice one :)

One last question! lol..... Is it possible to take a playlist from itunes and just let VDJ automatically play through the playlist automatically?

yes..
VDJ imports your itunes playlist.
And you can easily use them at VDJ's built-in automix ..

;)

i cant figure out how to do automix?

at the very right side of your browser, is where automix is at.
Make your own playlist there, or import (open) a saved one...

And press the icon there to start the automix :)

thanks soo much!!

Im gonna go get one of those interfaces sometime this week!

My mixer is the Numark DXM06 and it has its own effects. Will i still be able to use these effects when running it through VDJ?

also, a while ago i had an old demo version of vdj
it had 2 lines of 4 bars at the top which showed which bar out the line of 4 the song was in, it helped with dropping songs in as the 2 beats out the bar of 4 would match and indicate when to drop.

does the newer version have something similar? i cant seem to find it

yes, the beat bars are still there :) thats a skin thing, so if you use VDJ default skin, it will be there...

And yes, all effects etc on your external mixer will work exactly as if you where using CD's... when using VirtualDJ.
The only difference is that the sound is coming from the decks in VirtualDJ and not directly from the CD's.

But it will be exactly as if the sound where from CD's, everything on your external mixer will work just as if ..
Effects, EQ, crossfader.. the lot :)

does the skin come with it? or do i have to download the skin? i cant seem to find it
