Have done some DJing in the pass with just two CD decks; nothing special, but I've been getting request to do some more gigs. So now I want to do it right and better. I'm just going to concentrate on being a mobile DJ doing small gigs (weddings, parties, etc.) I've checked out several DJ software demos and I'm more impress with Virtual DJ 6. I've purchased my laptop and the Maya 44 USB soundcard. For basic setup with Virtual DJ I will need an amp, correct? Would like suggestions on good ones; not cheap, but not too expensive. I will also need speakers; again suggestions would be appreciated. Now, can I DJ using the mixer of the software? I just plan on playing the jamz and then starting the next one by trying to beat match them. Nothing special for now until I gain more experience and knowledge. Eventually I plan on buying an MIDI controller.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Dragono, good to hear your starting to get calls. Do yourself a favor and look on craigslist for a used b-52 Matrix 1000 sound system. It has the amps built in and it sounds great. I've been using their systems for awhile now and I have never had any problems. You should be able to get a used one for around $500-600 in Los Angleles. You can also get an M-Audio midi controller for cheap also. Just to let you know, I just got a new gig at a club just because I could spin video without have a lot of extra equipment. You can't beat VD6 for ease of use and versatility.

Yo Marv!!! Congrats on your new gig!! Hopefully, someday I can land a club gig also. But for now it's just practice and learning. Thanks for the tip and the sound system. I'll goggle it and check it out.

Hello! So I am totally new to the DJ world and need mad advice. I have played in a band professionally for many years, but decided to become multi-dimensional and give the DJ thing a shot. I am an audiophile to the core and love music and have a pretty vast collection (mostly CD's). I also understand the in and outs of live performance from a musicians perspective so I think I have a good background to get started. Basically what I need to know is what equipment to get. I would like to DJ on the side when im not playing with my band. Wedding's, parties, corporate events, etc. Im not trying to go full force and make it a career..........yet. Anyway, I really like the Numark CDN-88 Mp3 CD player. It sounds like it is quality and might do the trick for what I want to do. However, I want to be able to access music not only through CD's but also through MP3's I have stored on my many external hard drives. Will Virtual DJ or Serato be compatible with the CDN-88? I already have a laptop thats fairly new. Also, what about a mixer? How many channels and what brand? I already have a 1000 watt digital Crown Amp that I use with my live setup as a bass player, too. I just want quality equipment that will last for a while and that I can build upon if needed. I dont see myself getting really technical with complex mixes and sophisticated sets, but im not opposed to it either. I would like to just play good music for people and have plenty of options to tweak or edit my sound if I want. I would rather have more than I need as opposed to less. Im sure you guys get messages like this all the time and I know it may be frustrating, but I have 100 percent respect for all of you and would like to get my foot in the door also and do what you do. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!!!!

Twanzclick, I'm a bass player myself. I've been playing since high school (30+years ago). I would suggest that you get yourself a Hercules RMX, it's a mixer and sound card combined. Since I'm not a scratch dj, I use mine on pretty much all of my gigs. It also comes with a light version of VDJ that you can later upgrade to the pro version. With Serato, you'll still need to get a mixer to do it right. That's the route I took and it's worked out well for me. You can use your crown amp and if you have 10 inch speakers with a horn, like many bass players have, you can start by using them. It won't sound the greatest but it will be a start. You could also get yourself a couple of jbl jrx passive speakers for a step higher. But for the money, there is nothing better than the B-52 systems. Go to the Guitar Center site and look at the reviews. I'm even buying a second system for bigger gigs. Once you listen to them, everything else sounds bad. You will be able to use your cd player with VDJ time code that you can download, but if you get the RMX, you can do most of your gigs just using that alone. Now if you have the money, get yourself the pioneer cdj 1000, and djm 800 mixer with a high quality sound card. I don't usually follow the crowd, but my cdj 1000's are really the best. I have Denon's too, but they are not as good as the Pioneers.
