i have had no problems with mpg2, you could try magic video converter, it does multiple files in each session.

DJ Memo,

One only need to spend a few hours in the forum you will see there are MANY factors that can cause videos to freeze. There are a few users here who have made a posting career regarding freezing videos. The causes range from under-powered laptops being the most common problem followed by video cards, bad video files, USB drives, and the list goes on and on. Personally I feel most of the problems are caused by "operator/computer error" and not the VDJ Software.

How do I make this claim you may ask?

Hopefully in another month or so I will be able to post the FACT I've been running VDJ for one year playing 3-4 nights a week, 5 hours a night with ZERO CRASHES. The "secrets of my success" are listed below, some may say I'm a dumb bitch but I've been called worse. (Someone called me a Democrat one time and I cut them with my switchblade!

(1) Forget using a laptop for video, yes I'm aware some work perfectly but even those have integrated keyboards just waiting on "Bubba the drunk" to give your keyboard the beer test. Beer made "Bud Wiser" but It's not going to help a laptop be any smarter. Not using a laptop will also mean you won't need to use USB's drives which is another plus. I use a powerful DESKTOP with INTERNAL drives.

(2) Turn your gig Machine into a dedicated VDJ machine, no games, no Internet. (And NO Netsearch) If a song is so obscure you don't have it in your own database chances are it was NOT that good anyway. I would rather tell someone I don't have a song than chance playing anything found for free on the Internet. Normally anything that's free is worth just what you paid for it.

(3) Know your videos! Most people would never play an MP3 file coded at 64 bps but it's amazing how many will grab a video with no idea what the audio or video bitrate is for the file. (I call this "Video Russian Roulette" in my neck of the woods. If you can afford it get your videos from a trusted source like Promoonly or Mixmash, I'm not sure what's available in your neck of the woods. If you do have videos and you don't know how they were coded there are freeware programs that will analyze them and eliminate the guess work. 98% of my videos are MPEG2, I try and not mix a bunch of video formats which some say is another potential problem.

The aforementioned opinions are based on my personal experience since going to video in 2006 and this approach works for me.
Your own experience and mileage may vary.

If anyone disagrees with me REMEMBER the switchblade.

Is it wrong that I'm sexually arroused by Renee's response? I love a lady with "know-how".

I see nothing wrong with that response other than you spelled ARROUSED wrong unless by using two "R's" means you are REALLY aroused.

OMG people.. After just what was said on my thread, I cannot believe that the first thing you don’t ask was,

Are you running XP or Vista;
Does your Video Card use DX9 or DX10

It took me a lot of digging on the forum to find what ur searching for.. You search for Freeze, Video Freeze, Freezing Videos and end up with everything on freezing but what your looking for due to Audio freezes as well so DJ Memo ask away....

Bad ripped vids.. and so on can be one reason but look how long it took for someone to subject to me the DX10 resolution..

But it’s all good… love this place

Thanks, Renee. I did realize (too late) that I had spelled aroused wrong and was hoping maybe some would see it as I'm REALLY aroused. Great minds... ; )

Ok Mr. Bennett (Can I call you TD?) this is my last response here, there are a couple of moderators who REALLY get their panties in a wad over "idle chatter" in the forum. But before I leave this post I wanted to say I checked out your profile photo and wanted to say you have a REALLY nice ball. :^)

It not just shiny and glows in the dark, it looks ribbed as well

you can watch them with VLC realy good and convert with total video converter , realy good to :)

I agree with Renee, however I have been using a laptop since before vdj had videos and i was running videos with another program. So since vdj went with videos I've been running with them since. So count the years. I never had a freeze, crash, or anything. I just purchased another laptop and have been working it hard also. This older laptop has no dedicated video ram, and is a single core processor 1.8, and uses a usb hard drive. Now, as Renee mentioned, my dj computers from day one have never seen the internet, not even for program update, have no virus programs, no games and no extra programs that I do not need.

BTW, I'm running mp1, mpeg2, vob, div and mpeg 4 videos in all the same show.

These are my tho laptops and video freeze on both computer. they are only 1 month old.

LAPTOP 1. (Main Laptop)

HP PAVILION DV7
WINDOW VISTA 32 BIT, SERVICE PACK 2
INTEL CORE 2 QUAND 2.0GHZ, ATI RADEON HD 4650 1GB, 4GB OF RAM, RUNNING VISTA FOR BEST PERFORMANCE AND DISABLE ANTIVIRUS, RUNNING ONLY THE ESSENTIAL SOFTWARE.

LAPTOP 2 (Backup laptop)

TOSHIBA SATELLITE
WINDOW VISTA 32 BIT, SERVICE PACK 2
INTEL CORE DUO 2.GHZ, ATI RADEON, ATI RADEON HD 4600 1GB, 4GB OF RAN, RUNNING VISTA FOR BEST PERFORMANCE AND DISABLE ANTIVIRUS, RUNNING ONLY THE ESSENTIAL SOFTWARE.

When does the video freeze? It during normal playback or during a transition? Do you have the hardware acceleration on? I use a program called Any Video Converter and it lets you do multiple at once, it's free and lets you set the bit rate and all that.
