Five years old, 4 to 6 nights a week? I would agree it has been reliable. However, five years in a laptop is like five years in a dog. Even if you buy the top of the line, they have a new model in a month. The technology has advanced so much in five years. I know, I know, I keep equipment forever also, but usually build a new computer every three years.

I would have to agree with you AMAHM. would you believe I had a German Shepherd that lived to the ripe old age of 22yrs. Btw, Thye new laptop I have runs 6.0.2 with vista but as I said before, Vista and I are arguing over how VDJ is supposed to sound and perform. I'm winning the argument by installing XP within the next few days.
The 5yr old laptop runs v3.4 and has been running all this time with no issues and NO CRASHES until that 1st crash the other night. Since I did the checkdisk and Disc clean up and whatever else I did, no more issues.
I must be getting old cause i'm becoming resistant to change.

Well, I'm not getting old, I am old. I don't like change either. I am still using a 10x6 rack that is killing me. I have had a driverack unit for over a year, and have not put it to use yet. My system sounds great with the analog old school stuff now. However, I have been doing a lot of parties in old homes and second floor catering halls. I hurt my shoulder at a gig last Saturday, and have another house party this week. I'm off to the Docs today. Maybe it's time to down size my unit.

Sorry you hurt your shoulder. I hurt my back years ago and it still hurts. (Like hell from time to time). I always charge at least $150 extra for steps.
Gotta tell ya, at 40, i'm just not as young as I used to be and I don't bounce back anywhere near as quickly.
You should not downsize. If you like your sound the way it is, just get roadies. Btw...The Driverack is a BEAST. Best piece of equipment I ever purchased.
