I was doing a gig the other night and after playing for an hour I loaded up a song and was cueing it up and as it was playing it was skipping (it was actually playing and then would hiccup, play for a split second, and then hiccup again and it kept doing this).
I finally had to switch to another audio source, causing a small break in my gig, and then close down VDJ and I turned my hard drive on and off. After re-starting VDJ I was able complete my gig, but this makes me nervous.
This is the second time this has happened to me!
I am running Windows Vista and had the performace check on the entire time and my page file usage never went over 1 GB and my CPU usage was always around 4%. I'm using an AcomData E5 USB 2.0 external powered hard drive, VDJ 6.0.1 Pro and the Hercules RMX.
Has anyone else experienced this skipping/hiccups??? Does anyone know how to avoid this?
I started to think it had something to do with the hard drive, but I'm not sure!!!

I'm having the same issues with playback. Small hiccups. I have a quad core i7 comp. with a new Hercules rmx. I have tried changing all settings in Virtual. I have not tried changing settings of RMX yet. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx

First of all Vista is a "No, No" OS for audio applications. You should either downgrade to XP or upgrade to Win7
Also audio Hiccups are most likely due to very low latency settings on your RMX ASIO drivers. Try to step up latency a notch or two...

1) Apply the changes explained in this guide:
http://ts.hercules.com/faqs/eng/her_eng_00364.pdf
2) In the DJ Control Panel, switch to ASIO audio mode, and in the ASIO tab, configure as follow:
- 44 Khz
- 16 bits
- 480 (10 ms)
Modify the ASIO Buffer Size, one step at a time ( raise or lower) them use VDJ for a while. Repeat until you find the correct setting for your computer.

I'm hammering away! Thanx for the info. I will give you a status report soon. Thanx

The Hercules control panel keeps switching to "WMD". Any tips on saving the "ASIO" setting?
Inviato Tue 28 Sep 10 @ 11:33 am
This is normal. VDJ will switch back to WDM on exit so the Rmx can be used for normal PC applications which do not support ASIO
Consequently, if the Rmx is properly configured in ASIO (Apply EQ in Input checked), it should automatically switch back to ASIO upon launching VDJ.

The hiccups have diminished but are still there.
Do I need to update firmware on the Hercules or is that included in the driver updates?
Also, my touchpad has been malfunctioning, and when it does the hiccups increase.
Do I need to download one of the controller packages offered on the Virtual web site?
FYI. I'm running on a Toshiba Qosmio X505 - 870. It's a quad core and it should be able to run the space shuttle (In my opinion), henceforth my extreme frustration at a gig this past Saturday, with all the "Hiccups"
I wanted to take this machine back and get a big Mac computer. Are they really better for this type of application?
Thanx!

I have win 7 64 bit 2,2 dual core nvidia 240m laptop and I use vci-300 controller with asio4all.
I also got also like one hiccup per hour during my 5,5 hours set. They happens sometimes during or after loading video to other deck. They are very minor hiccups (like 1/4 second) but still a bit annoyance. Actually I think no-one recoginzed them at the club except me.
I think it might be related to sound snippet problem (not sure actually is it hiccup or sound snippet played on the top of the track). I use maximum settings and keylock on both decks which causes the occasional snippet.

I have reduced the hiccups to only being occasional.
Shutdown all non-essential programs. Probably need to shutdown more?
Turned off all virus and firewall software. Also disabled wifi.
Is it normal for the video to have a momentary hiccup while the other video is loading?
I checked the threads and downloaded the programs suggested. They did help but it is a long, painful, slow process to try and find the program(s) doing the damage.

I have tried everything that is in the forums, but I get a latency spike that causes the hiccups and almost shuts down the computer.
The latency checker shows the spike long red and clear.
I shut down all programs not essential to basic operation.
I'm starting to think it may be the latest version of Virtual?
The wave form on the top of the screen does not travel smoothly, nor do the on screen spinning cd's, or whatever you call them.
Any ideas?
Thanx

If the latency checker shows you RED spikes then you need to investigate further. That's not an issue with VDJ itself and most likely it will affect ANY audio application. Try to update your display drivers and/or disable some of your system devices (like modem / lan card e.t.c.) one at the time. You need to pin-point where this RED spike comes from...

I agree with you.
I hooked the system up to my older computer that has all kinds of anti virus and anti spyware and it is running flawlessly. Not a problem.
I'm going to take the big computer to someone that can really dig into it deeper than I have.
I will be changing over to Mac's once these computers are outdated. Everyone I know that is using a mac for audio and video don't have these issues. Unless I just have a bad computer?
Thanx for all the help and the links. I appreciate the info. After going onto everything from the bios on up, I almost feel like I could program one of these things!

Look on the forum for a latency checker. I think it's "sycon"?
I have been having latency spikes. I have been unable to determine what is causing the spikes, but another thread says that downloading "asio4all" can help fix the problem.
Good luck!
