Will an old record player work with virtual dj?

Did you mean for time code vinyl ?
If so, it should be ok, but it depends on the construction
1.) if you are able to change the speed of the deck
2.) if you want to scratch about the "head" and construction for antiskip protection
(ordinary record players - needles, are not costructed to be used when the record
is spinning/pushed into opposite direction so you can do harm to a record/player)
Or am I wrong ? :-)

An old turntable will do the work. If that turntable did not have pitch control you can use the pitch control in VDJ. If you want to scratch you may need that the old record player support heavy weights (5 grams typical or more) depends on the cartridge you may use.
