Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

So last night I go into to work were I've been playing for 3yrs, every week and doing there karaoke two nights a week for them and the owner was there which he's not there that often..

He's says to me we need to talk I say ok so we sit down and says this is what I'm going to be paying you from now on if you like it that's fine if not leave and I'll find some one else..so I swallow what he say's looked at his numbers for the offer what a shock let me tell you it was about a 1k less a month then it has been for the pass 3yrs(mind you it's all my system)..then he goes on to say I can put in a house system and pay somebody $50 night to do what you do, Then I go on to say What about all the time and effort I put ii at home that NOBODY see's what we do on are off time, and not only that I say what about all the music and up keep of the current tracks., I go on to tell him I have accounts for all my music, he says I can find somebody else..so I chew on it all night why I was working as normal..
So my offer I came back to him with at the end of the night was a base pay of $150 up $1,500 and any thing over that would be 10% of total sale's for the night from 9-2 my playing time..He said NO it's my numbers are nothing..

sorry for the rant dam club owners think they always know best..(p.s the last club that did this to me went out of business go figure it's sad) greed is a killing thing..

Sadly 99% of club owners don't care about anything but profit. Consider this an opportunity to try something new though. You've been there for 3 years explore your opportunities!

Hmm. But how do you think the people at Vdj feel when your using a cracked copy? To be fair, if they did put an inhouse system in, im sure it would all be legal ;)

@2brothers:

I can't see what state or country you are in since you don't have a profile but I can tell you people are losing jobs right and left here in the U.S. Florida was just named THE WORST state in all 50 for job opportunities. I personally know people with advanced college degrees working for minimum wage just to have a job and they are happy to have anything right now.

You may want to consider the offer and thank your lucky stars you have a job.

I've had this conversation so many times in the last 25 years that it is not even remotely funny anymore. Here is the deal, either take it, or not. I'll bet you dollars to donuts some other DJ is in the owners ear telling him he (the other DJ) will do it for X amount. Renee' is right, with un-employment on the rise it will turn from cut throat to back stabbing in a very short time. Either strap in, or move on.

The owner, however, will get the last word. They have considered paying a guy less, for fewer customers. However, technically, their profit margin could increase. Its all about the math.

Take the offer but look for other work and when you find it leave, 3 years is more than enough time to spend in one place anyway.

At the end of the day. You pay pea nuts, you get monkeys.

If his giving you a huge pay cut, in all honestly i'd put as little effort in as possible behind the scenes. I'd start playing music exactly at 9pm and finish exactly at 2am.

In all honestly his paying for what his getting and now his cutting your pay, you'll have to cut some time.

It can't swing both ways!

Gear up and become a mobile dj.
End of story

That IS my point regarding the college grad delivering Pizza. Times are tough and the club owner just might get a GORILLA for peanuts.

I wont play for 50 bucks.. Not all DJ's are the same when they are on the set. Some djs are just ok (Meaning Ah.. So So) and others bring energy to the dance floor because they are better. The ones that bring energy into the dance floor should get paid more than the ones that are just ok. If you feel that you are better than the other djs that are just OK.. Then move on to another spot.. Over by me in NYC.. If you are very good. You can work 3-4 maybe 5 nights a week getting paid 300 thru 400 each night. (laptop Only.. No extra equipment) These are the djs that bring energy into the dance floor and the club gets packed because the people already know the music is really good. Your style makes a difference.

If you are great with a very good manager and your name is out there.. You can make 500-1500 a night (laptop only) This is when you have a following. Its funny how.. When times are ruff.. people still have money to buy a drink.

I deliver Chinese food several times a week.

Fuel prices have gone up again, and expected to go up again.

She wont pay me more money to cover petrol costs, so i'll drive more carefully. Thus making the delivery 5 minutes later then expected = bad reputation. But her prices are staying the same and making huge profits.

I'm not asking for a pay rise of a few ££ for petrol because i know she'll say get lost and ring another contact from her list that shes got from when people ring in asking for jobs on a regular basis.

At the end of the day. I'm now turning up to work dead on the dot and leaving a minute or 2 after. I'm driving very very steady now so i'm making money, instead of spending it.

Its very one sided when you have money though.

Thanks guys and gals all good points for sure..Like I said this is not the first club to do this to me I have been in this industry for 15yrs..

As to Rick I started out being mobile and still do one off gigs here and there for returning customers but as for trying to start over in that field I fell its tuff and to battle with all the iPod Dj's out there..

As to Jazzy who said anything about a cracked copy just cause my screen name is not registered.. not going to get into all that..I do have a registered copy but don't feel the need to register it..along with all the other gear and software that says it needs to be registered.. I look at as a tracking device not my style I'm sorry..

As for another Dj trying to get in to there it is possible but I think I'm going to take his offer and seek something else out in the mean time, if my gear is just sitting I'm not making no money so something is better then no money, I do understand that things are tuff but cutting part of the entertainment I don't feel is the answer being we are the ones that bring the people there in the first place I also understand that we are replaceable..

a lot of clubs in my town have closed so theres a lot of peole out of work here. i know 2 dj's that had to move careers untill things pick up again.

one is working in a card store selling greetings cards and the other is working in netto, stacking shelves..youde be surprised how many people there are in the same boat..

as for the club owner and the chinese takeaway woman, you can guarentee they are feeling the pinch too.

people loose jobs which causes them to stop buying take outs and stop going to clubs. then prices of stock gos up and the cost of the fuel bills. therefore the clubs and takeaways have to make cutbacks in other places to break even and earn a living.

problem is the first places to be cut back on is the staff..

i have learned to realise that as an employee im just another expendable soldier in the fight for a decent wage.

the harder we fight the less we get, if we dont fight we dont get anything at all.. so basically no matter waht we do or how hard we try, ultimately we are all stuck in the same catch 22 situation.

ps. man i hate the look an unreg user argument.. theres a lot of unregistered users who have legit software but dont or cant register for some reason. i happened to buy a second hand herc with legit software that had already been registered.. so cant register untill i can afford to get either a new herc or a liscence...

which takes me back to the origional topic...lol.. how ironic eh..no work = no money = no new toys.. haha catch 22..
