Hi all, I'm about to go mobile again doing Birthdays & weddings etc. I have been doing a couple of regular gigs at local pubs for the last few years but i miss doing parties.
I used to do parties every week, but working for someone else. I set-up on my own about 4 years ago now as the guy i was working for was taking more and more money to the point it wasn't worth going for (some jobs he would want to charge £150 and keep £100 for himself as he got the job and supplied the mixer amp speakers and 2 lights!, or he would give you an extra £20 if you supplied ALL your own equipment)
I already get extra jobs via word of mouth but I'd like any help or advice as to how to get my name out for private functions? ie. how and where to advertise? Is a website worth doing? if so any good hosts?
I think of myself as a good general DJ, I have done lots of good jobs in most types of functions, 18ths - 80ths, Weddings to Retirements upto approx 350 people and I have a good set-up with decent equipment and enough lights to fill a small night club lol. I can, and have, happily do functions in working mens / social clubs, hotels, commenity centers etc.
Thanks for any advice

Website can be pricey, Word of mouth is great but Facebook & Myspace is free & most definitely can get you advertised a lot quicker. Also a simple business card to pass out won't hurt at all. Good luck & let us know how things wrok out as you go along.

Good luck on your mobile endeavors!
I use 1and1.com and the pricing is pretty good, definitely not expensive. http://uniquedeejays.com

Yes, good luck. Facebook is really cool and really got my mobiles going. My web site I created myself, very simple but at least it's something.

i started same way as you ......god help us! ....cheap jerk getting the horrid gigs , crap equip , no clue how to train somebody .....very accomplished at paying badly...
did i remember to say a cheap jerk??
much happier since i went out on my own .....vowed to never treat anyone like that ....unless they don't like action adventure heroes .....
set yer prices at a reasonable level and you'll be happy.....
don't be the cheapest ....you already did that.....

Thanks for that, I've gone with the UK version of them. Registered www.dragondiscos.com
Just got to wait for it to all go through and then I get to start trying to make my site :)
Does anyone have any ideas for the site? I think I'm going to have 7 pages :
Home - General introduction page
Services / Music - Obviously about the music and/or services I can provide
Experience - A bit about my DJing experience
Location - Where I'm based and areas i cover, Plus maybe venues I've played at
Equipment - Details of types of equipment / rigs that can be sullpied including set-up pics
Pricing - Run down of pricing
Contact / Enquiry - On-line form for submitting an enquiry along with general contact details
Maybe :
Photos / Videos - General Pics/vids from functions I have done
Comments page - for customers to leave comments / reviews after booking me
Do these seem ok? Is there anything I'm not thinking of?
When I get the site on-line how do I get people to find it?
DJ RuDe - do you use 1and1? did you use their website builder tool? If so, is it any good?
Thanks for the encouragement guys, apart from the website, what else should I do to get the word round?
I'm thinking to try leaflets in local shops, pubs, woking mens clubs. All the free online listings I can find. Sending a more substantial leaflet/booklet to all local venues. Facebook & Twitter. I haven't got myspace yet, but may look into it
Thanks in advance for any help
