Greetings,
I'm gearing up for a new club job and I want to bring in my own LCD TV... and put it on a "crankup" speaker stand, and run the LCD up 9 feet. I'll put on a safety cable to some railing or an eye hook.
I've seen some of you VJ's having mobile LCDs. DJphenominal has a pair on vertical trusses. I need to get to 9 feet. His look to be 6 to 7 feet. I can't find any other pictures or articles.
I'm looking at this stand from PSSL.

And this TV:

Does anyone set up LCD TVs on lighting stands? This is a 40" TV at 58 lbs. The truss is rated at 80 lbs and has a crank.
Just wondering if there are any better ideas. I need a quick setup and tear down.
Thanks,
JimJam

not thought about going the projector route, small and convenient and way less hassle.

Hi Tayla,
I do have a projector with an 80" front project screen and a lycra bathing suit material rear projector screen. I clamp either to a truss. It depends on the light levels in the room and safety issues of a front projector on the floor, to which screen I bring to a job. Sometimes I take both and make the decision on the fly.
This new add with the LCD TV will just be another show option. The owner of this club dosen't want me to mount a projector from the ceiling yet. I will eventually. He is hesitant until he sees how well music videos goes over.
And anyway it is a value add for my mobile shows. Bride & Groom might like it. I'll have more 'UP" sale options.
I'm just concerned about safety and transport. I'll probably have to make some kind of padded bag to carry around the TV. So-Fro Fabric store trip will be on the task list.
Thanks Tayla. Still love your videos. Very creative.

JimJam

Jimmy L. Did you see my projector idea with a window shade on another chapter? I use a window shade at approx 9', and a 38" shade (wide). I shoot through with a projector on either a musical stand or a laptop stand. You can also use a podium. Shoot upwards using keystone correction from the rear. Cheap and quick to set up.
Found the link hopefully. http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/122643/General_Discussion/Screen_ideas_for_those_just_getting_into_video.html?search=window%20shade&page=1

Doc,
Looks good. I didn't know that a window shade could be used for a rear projection screen. It seems kinda of thick to punch the light through it. I'll have to experiment. Thanks for the idea.
I wonder how wide that could be made without a seam. Could a custom house make a shade 80 inches wide? I would guess 48 inches would be max.
Yeah, I'm ready to pull the trigger on buying into putting this LCD TV on that crank up light stand. I wonder how wobbly it would be. Some venues it would not be possible to put a safety/anti wobble wire (like outdoors).

JJ

You need a light filtering one not a room darkening. Rear projection works real nice with light filtering. I saw one 72" wide which would give you at least 80" diag. Of course you prob need a truss to hold that one. I also saw a 10' special order one at a home depot the other month. At that point in time you might as well just use spandex. Pretty large shade to transport around.
