What do the partners and flatmates of VDJ devotees do when their significant others are tucked away Mixing???
I'm driving my best friend nutty with all my mixing!!! any other options for her would be greatfully received. Knitting, Reading and doing the washing up is all i've come up with (This has NOT gone down well!!!). Help!!!

Why not get her dancing to your mixes... Or invite some friends round for parties so they can all get down to your latest mix! At least she won't be alone then!!!

Or ask her if she would like to learn. I've been there since I've got my hands on VDJ. Like G_Man said, u could get her dancing to ur ish. I bet she would be honored when u say " hey babe, I gotta go take a leak, take over for a sec". Think about it.

kneepads..

...wait for it...

so they can replace the carpets, regrout the tile, put in hardwood floors....

and for those that were thinking something else... well... you are dj's. right?

and if anyone was even partially offended by that post then i will partially apologize for it.

in all seriousness tho, my other half has become annoyed on many occasions where i was either mixing, researching, or otherwise work involved at the computer. most of the time she actually does understand that these are things i need to do to keep a roof over our heads, but there are also times when she thinks enough is enough and that i need to stand up and get away from the keyboard - whether i am finished or not.

you learn to balance things out with your other half over time hopefully and with a little luck (and some occasional out and out bribery) you reach a compromise.

best of luck.

i need to get my mind washed out...

Buy her a Nintendo DS ..... problem solved (well, it worked for me!)

krad does have a point there...

Introduce her to Farmville, seems everyone is playing it nowadays (or my facebook inbox is lying to me:))

Im not sure she is THAT easily pleased...

Yeah you're right there Brian, Farmville, Fishville, any bloody ville, lol

sure jimmy, and if they started BEERVILLE you'd be there...

Jimmy is the mayor of BEERVILLE, I'm the head of the city council. Sure taxes are a bit high but, beer is free. Seana, if they are a good friend they will soon realize how important mixing is to you and accept it. Good luck....

My wife is always happy when I hand her money....tell her it was a tip I got for playing a request. She gladly excepts with a smile and disappears into the distance. Bye bye as I wave to her with one hand on my RMX

Cheer's T, of course I'll be your Mayor!!!!

it's a tough one!

If the other has a similar passion for music then we have something to work with and as others have already said, include your other in what you do tho this presents issues as well and if your other learns to like mixing and wants to play more and more then get a set up for your other to use.

If not and you want to keep your partner talk it out and balance your time. I know this is a hard one but a balance can be found.

It's not easy finding the balance and few can really ever understand what we as DJ's do not only in music production but that passion that drives us plus all the reviews we have to do to keep current.

So in talking it out with your other explain these things as best you can.

Also offer to set aside specific time periods where there is no mixing at all and you spend the time exclusively with your partner.

I think you'll find your partner willing to work this out with you especially when compromises are offered.

Best of Luck!

Thanx DJ-4-u, i love that image...

And Phantasm, wise words, though we do have that non-mixing time... Its When were sat at the breakfast table 1st thing in the morning... isn't that enough!!!

Thanx all... I'm off to go grab some "quality" time!!! DOH!

Hi All,
I'm Seana's other half.
I was rather expecting to be told to get a life, so I just thought I'd grab this time while the computer's free(!) to thank you all for your humour and understanding. I don't feel such a selfish bitch. Maybe us DJ WAGS should start up a forum of our own... am I too late?

Hello other half!

DJ's are a strange breed, sometimes you'll just have to shake your head, smile and laugh knowing that even in your other half's insanity with music that you are loved.

And Seana good luck to you you have a great partner. Let go of the insanity from time to time and go have some fun.

Oh and I forgot to mention a major critical aspect of keeping the creative flow going!

One of the most important things to keep yourself fresh and creative is TO LIVE!

It is through LIVING that we refresh ourselves and find inspiration.

Always remember this and take breaks or you will burn out!

Go out and have a blast with your partner and you will see for yourself!

All work no play lol!
