Hello,
I am new to Virtual DJ Pro and had a question that I hope someone could help me with.
I am a Wedding Disc Jockey. For each wedding, I plan on assembling all of the music that the bride & groom pick (for each of the formal events) into one folder/playlist. For example; their first dance song, cake cutting song, introductions, etc.
I have a good understanding on how to do this. But what I would like to do (if possible), is rather than have the song show up in the playlist as the actual song title & artist, I would like to have them appear like this:
Introduction of Bridal Party
Introduction of Bride & Groom
Cake Cutting
Bride & Groom First Dance
Bridal Party Dance
Bride & Father Dance
This way when I am at an event, I do not have to worry that the song they chose for the cake cutting is "How Sweet It Is" by James Taylor, I just have to select the song that I have already labeled as the "Cake Cutting" song.
I do not want to change the ID3 tag, I just want to change the place holder that points to the song in either a playlist or virtual folder. Is this possible? If so, how?
Thank you,
Robert Pfeifer

Hi Pifemaster,
I'm not sure if I completely understand your question, but see if this is what your trying to do. Pick out the song(s) you want to have listed as "cake cutting" etc... Drag & Drop then over to the right hand side bar, then right click on the + sign and pick save. Then you can name that file whatever you want. Click OK, and it will show up in the left hand sidebar under the playlist file. Hope thats what your trying to do.

Cake Cutting
Bride & Groom First Dance
etc.
So each wedding would have it's own playlist and all of the songs from that wedding would be in the playlist.

The only way to do that would be to make a copy of the song and then rename it appropriately.
Alternatively, you could put the above information into the comment field of the song. Right-click on a column heading in the browser and then choose to display the comment column.

Hi Pifemaster, I understand you question now, and thanks to jpboggis I was about to suggest the same thing. You can also change the order of information at the top of your browser. You can have it reading from left to right such as "comment"----"song title"------"artist"--"length"----etc.. Hope that helps a little more, if not sooner or later someone steps up to the plate and will give a hand. It really is a great community on here.

jpboggis,
Thank you for the response. I was afraid that was the case. In doing some research online, I was hoping I would be able to manually edit the .m3u file and add the ALTERNATE title using an m3u extended field. Do you know if this might be a possibility?

Unfortunately I don't think that's supported.

quick question:
can you have an existing playlist saved with a title and list of songs, then find song you want to add or remove from that playlist and resave it?
the only way ive found possible is to copy the actual playlist name and click the save/copy paste the name in it..please tell me there is an easier way..

There is a much easier way.
Write the name of the song on a piece of paper and then what part of the wedding it is for, and keep it right next to ur laptop.
Since ur gonna have to change the playlist with each wedding, I don't see the point in renaming files if you can just have the songs in a playlist, then look at ur physical list to remind you.

Use NotePad then copy and past into VDJ playList as Needed....Done.
Another thing you can do is create a "Virtual folder" for that venue and delete when done, or rename it and just add and remove tracks as needed...
Good Luck

I know this is an old post but I have the same issue. The software I used to use (OTS AV) had the ability to create and name red colored "Placeholders".
You would name a placeholder anything you want such as First Dance, Slow,Garter... The placeholders would then be placed in the playlist just like any other song with the song you wanted to be played behind them. When you got to that point the Placeholder would just disappear like a "false song" and the next song would play. This was EXTREMELY helpful. You could have playlists within your playlist. For example one of my favorites was to insert a placeholder called "requests" then I would start placing all requested songs in that area at the bottom of the playlist. I used it a a gauge to make sure I was being appropriately attentive to the desires of the crowd.
I would love to know if there is any way to replicate this behavior. I want to be clear I love VDJ. I come from using OTS AV for automated parts of the night and Serato for the rest. ADJ is miles ahead of both in so many ways it's scary.

On my HDD, I keep a folder with a name "TODAY's EVENT." If I sit down to prepare playlist for multiple events, I add subfolders (i.e. Samson & Delilah, Adam & Eve, Bonnie & Clyde)
I use the artist column to type in the description (i.e. Grand entrance) so they appear next to the song title.
I also put numbers in front of the title (i.e. 01- Song Title) for easy sorting.
There might be some other better ways, but this is what I discovered effective... especially if I have 2 gigs on a same day and the list will be used by my other DJs.

Surely a better option would be to have a virtual folder with the same name and just drag the songs in to it for that night.
No duplication of files, no need to reanalyse and all your cue points remain intact.
Cheers,
Roy
