I would like to see the forum search engine modified so that it works. It is too sensitive to capitalisation and it is way to hard to narrow a search and find results. It does not seem to recognise numbers. The list of found items is also way too short. It would be good if it worked a bit like the google search where you can use "" and + and - plus recognise strings of words or phrases.

I totally agree. Very often forum members are chastised for not doing a search for a problem that's already been addressed in another thread, the problem is that it's too hard to find the thread because of the search engine's limitations.

You can also use google to search the forum.

NLUs often seem to be capable of digging up a 10 year old thread ;)
 
i'm surprised at such an unhelpful post from SBDJ .....

are there any improvements for the search currently underway ??
 
Unhelpful? My latter comment was slightly tongue-in-cheek granted, but it is also very true. NLUs are often bumping ancient threads which that had to have found somehow.

I also pointed out in my first line that you can use google to search the forum by appending site:virtualdj.com to your search query.

ok ..... i didn't know what you meant about nlu's ......

but i enjoy nlu bashing so what i was on about is the googling ......

and you coulda just said ...... if there anything in the works to improve the site search ??

which many of us would like.......

i dunno to me search is always a hot button pain.....

why is search always so crappy ?? i don't mean just here .....

i could look at something on the desktop , close that file , then search for it and not get it for a search result .........??

or actually see on screen a controller at a music vendor site , search the site for that device and not get it in the result !???

i will try that append (age)? with google.......
 
Idealy, every forum should be as simple to use as the Windows 7 forum: http://www.sevenforums.com/

There are many types of forums, there are a few forums like the windows 7, and i always visit them due to the fact, simple to use.

The Win7 forum has such a easy search feature too. For all my threads/ posts. I have to type in my user name into the search to find my work, thus very frustrating.
 
we used to have a great search feature at one time, then it disappeared for some reason, as said before maybes this is why people don't search as often for a subject as they once did.
