Topic: Help on laptop decision

Questo argomento è obsoleto e potrebbe contenere informazioni obsolete o errate.

I've been a bedroom dj for about 6 months now. I've been running VDJ on my personal macbook but im ready to start djing parties/clubs and i'd like to buy a laptop strictly for dj use. I really don't have much money to spend. I definitely can't spring for anything new so im gonna search ebay and craigslist for some used laptops. I was just wondering if you have any suggestions on what to look for in a laptop or a certain laptop you particularly like. I greatly appreciate any input.

i jus bought a Dell Latitude D630 secondhand and its brilliant for VDJ... Its got a Centrino processor (which is the version before they re-branded them Dual-core) with XP Pro software (the best OS for VDJ). it cost me £225. No glitches, pretty fast and has a big memory...
i looked and looked with increasing confusion but i'm glad i got this one, in the end. it does everything i want and is soooo much quicker than my PC running Vista... i do a regular weekly radio slot and some clubs and its never let me down so far (touch wood!)... and its soooo cool, compared to decks, cd changers etc... small and efficient (just the way i like it)

Work better, rather than harder!!!

good luck.

I was using a Dell Inspiron 15 1545 until recently, that was a workhorse that never let me down

Go for a PC m8. There is a ton more options that you have with a PC, and you can get higher quality for cheaper. I wouldnt really suggest getting a used laptop from craigslist, but if you must, insure it has the following, otherwise you will NOT be happy with your machine:
80gb or more of Hard Drive space (I have at least 60 gb specifically for music right now)
2.0 ghz processor (make sure the machine has 2 processors running at 2 ghz)
15.6" inch screen minimum (do not get a netbook screen, to hard to DJ with)
2gb of RAM (more is better, but anything less and itll feel sluggish at time)

Obviously any of these components if you can find better within your budget, go for it. Id say try to stick with a Dell, and try to either buy one with a warranty, or buy a warranty. Dell has AMAZING customer serverice, and their tech support is good. I had an inspiron for 3 years, DJed tons of gigs with is.

(I know have a Sager NP8662, though I dont think of it as a budget laptop, seeing as it was $1700, its called a Desktop Replacement lol)

I am using a lenovo n200 3000....just perfect with all possible combinations,,controlers timecodes..e.t.c.Almost 18 months 4-5 nights per week...for just about 600 euros..You see IBM is behind,,LOVE IT
