This happened at a gig twice last night. On both occasions a re-start of VDJ Pro solved the problem.
This used to happen with the right deck in VDJ and was due to my Denon DN4500 requiring a firmware update - this solved the problem.
Hopefully there is an update which will solve this new issue.
Thanks
John

Test, Test and Test again before you go live.....
Never do an MS update before your gig...Please.

sounds like your asio buffer is set to high can cause all kinds of weird $hit to happen.

Ah, a sensible answer at last! Thanks DJ Cyder.
Yes, I do have my ASIO set to an extreme for instant track start. The slide bar is set hard over to the left.
So this can cause the software to crash in this way? That's not very good if so.
Is there a solution?
Thanks
John

Hi John,
11ms is perfect for instant start and seems to be the best setting.
I think I remember in our phone conversation talking about this .... if you have the latency too high then the buffers run out and the sound can skip or stop altogether.
1ms latency is attainable on some systems and sound cards, but in my experience it's not possible with a normal laptop and the HC-4500's sound card. It's not a VDJ issue it is about finding out which settings are best with your hardware.
Try 11ms and see what happens.

That's very helpful. Thank you for that.
I will try this on my next gig at the weekend.
Cheers

Forgot to mention .... you need to set the latency to Auto in VDJ then set the slider in the Denon asio control panel to 11ms. You will also need to restart VDJ after every change to the Denon control panel for the changes to be effective. Regards, Keith

John,
Suggest if possible you try well before your next gig... That way if its still not as you like we can make some more suggestions.
It's much wiser to test and test again, rather than wait until you have paying customers around you...

All understood. Thanks. It might be a day or two before I feel well enough to set everything up to test - I seem to have contracted the infamous winter bug and, believe me, it's no fun.
I haven't had this particular problem before when DJing. Perhaps it IS the laptop as I am still using my trusty old Asus laptop until I can reach some conclusion with Comet regarding the faulty new Vaio I bought from them a couple of months ago. They haven't been in contact and I am having to take them to court to try and get my money back. The scumbags!
By the way, this old laptop is a dedicated machine for VDJ Pro. I don't even use the internet on it. Wireless LAN and all unnecessary drivers are disabled/not installed and the startup has been seriously fine-tuned. Stuttering problems seem to be a thing of the past.

Managed a couple of lengthy tests yesterday evening, one with the slider set to 11ms and the second with it set to 1ms. Latency was set to "auto" anyway - I did not have to alter this.
With the slider set to 11ms: There were no problems., however, the song start is way too slow for my liking. I want INSTANT! and I want it NOW ;0) It's nice to have that.
With the slider set to 1ms: I got something completely different this time. After a 100 or more songs, I did not lose the left channel, but I noticed two new problems. 1: The waveform window which runs accross the top of the screen became flickery, though did not appear to have any effect on sound or performance. 2: After an hour or so, the right deck lost half its volume level. I tried the same songs in both decks and the right deck was about half the level of the left deck. Restarting VDJ Pro returned things to normal.
So, could it be my laptop is the problem? I am still forced to using my old laptop until I can resolve the issues I have with that evil company called Comet.
Any comments appreciated.
I will try something mid-way on the slider next, possibly around 3 to 5ms.

It's a trade-off John .... it depends on various factors but I would guess your old laptop cannot handle ultra low latency. You might find something in the middle works better but in your current situation you will have to decide between stability and a slower start.
I don't know what you find as acceptable, but my Alcatech controller was set at 30ms and my HC-4500 was at 11ms in windows before I changed to the mac version and that was well fast enough for me.

True, there is very often a trade-off of some sort. I am trying 3ms and that seems to be OK so far. It's nice to have the ultra-quick start but for most of my gigs it isn't really necessary.
Thanks again.
John
