Apple has just released details about the video hardware acceleration API, which apparently was kept under wraps to third parties:

Maybe this is something Virtual DJ's Mac-version could use.

You know, Cyder....is it just me, or have we had this discussion before? ;)
I point out that there might be some solution that could potentially be used to improve video performance on Mac, and you're always quick to point out how it's insufficient because it doesn't cover all video formats and/or doesn't work on all Macs.
It's very easy to get the impression that you're implying that anything less than full hardware acceleration for all Macs and all formats is not worth even considering. I personally found that kind of attitude strange. It's not very realistic to keep waiting for some kind of magical end-all-be-all solution. Even limited support is better than nothing. With that kind of approach developers can sit with their thumbs up their asses waiting until the end of days.
Please feel free to correct if I got the wrong impression.

I think you took his comment the wrong way as he was restating the first disclaimer sentence of the link you provided:
"This reference describes the Video Decode Acceleration framework available on Mac OS X 10.6.3 and later with Mac models equipped with the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, GeForce 320M or GeForce GT 330M."
... and in fewer words ...

I don't think apple will allow any acceleration on the 8600mgt because they are melting down already without the added stress. Anyways as you well know I'm biggest mac advocate on the corporate staff here at Atomix, and personally I read about this last week before it was posted on mac rumors and already passed it on to the dev team. Using this api would require the dev team to pretty much rewrite the video engine, and it's not helping any older macs in the process just so you know there is no magic for older macs here. However Atomix will use anything out there to improve mac video performance this is a fact.
