Hello,
I am assembling a second sound system to be used as a Backup, Wedding Ceremony System & when I need Cocktail Music in a remote location. The mixer that I purchased for this system is a 1 space Rane MLM 42S Mic/Line mixer. This mixer has 4 chanels that are mic/line switchable. 2 of the chanels will be fed by Sure ULXP4 wireless mic recievers. The other 2 (or maybe 1) channels I plan on using to connect my Laptop running Virtual DJ Pro.
So, my question is related to an external USB sound card. Here is what I am looking for:
- USB Bus Powered (prefer to not need a wall wart)
- Balance Output (1/4" or XLR)
- 24 bit DAC
- I do NOT need the ability to preview using headphones. I am comfortable using virtual DJ's internal mixer to crossfade between deck A & B, so a single output would be fine.
- My main system is using a Denon HC-4500 controller with ASIO 2.0 driver, so would prefer something that can also use ASIO 2.0 driver
- Needs to play nicely with Virtual DJ Pro.
Anyone have a recomendation?
Thank you,
Robert Pfeifer

Thank you both for the responses.
The Vestax looks quite interesting. However, I can not seem to find any info on whether or not it uses the ASIO 2.0 drviver.
I actually have been looking at the Native Instruments Audio 2. It does seem to have all the features I am looking for. The only thing I have seen conflicting information about the 1/4" outputs. One website indicates that they ARE balanced 1/4" outputs, but the Native Instruments website seems to list them as UNBALANCED. I would purchase this sound card if I knew the 1/4" outputs were balanced.
Thanks again,

Not usb but Firewire... Echo AudioFire 4. I have put a FireWire extension card to one desktop to use it. very good election, works without external power, unless you use a laptop with a 4 pin firewire port. For me this card rocks big time. Rock solid drivers, for Windows (32 and 64 bits) and Mac (10.4 to 10.6).

Hope fits for you, you wont regret.

you are really overthinking this if you don't need headphones just use the headphone jack you said it wasn't your main system hell my cenmony system is an ipod and 1 powered speaker with a built in mixer.

The audio outputs of Audio 2 Dj are UNBALANCED.
Just a quick question: Why do you need BALANCED outputs from a soundcard? It's like asking for a CD-Player with balanced outputs....
I can point you to a few soundcards with BALANCED outputs but 1) They are all firewire 2) They are for use in studios from musicians e.t.c... and 3) Their size can't be described as small and/or compact.
I'm not familiar with your mixer, but if you are not planning to send the soundcard's signal in a distance bigger than 400 inches (about 10 meters) nor you are planning to connect it on a mixing deck like this: http://www.soundcraft.com/products/product.aspx?pid=135 (Excuse me I don't know the english word for this kind of mixing decks) then you don't need balanced outputs.
In fact balanced outputs for dj gear will cause you more headache than the "issues" it might solve.
PS: You can convert unbalanced to balanced with a DI box. You can't convert balanced to unbalanced without some small technical issues.
I'm just curious why you need balanced outputs on a backup system!!!
PS2: here's a soundcard I own on my studio: http://www.focusrite.com/products/saffire/saffire_pro_40
You can find balanced outputs only on this category of soundcards.
