I've got a pair of t-bars that I rarely use so have decided to turn them in to a screen for projecting video to just as they show on the DJscreen home page, yet can't see why they are sooooo expensive...

Anyone know of where I can get the fabric from in the UK?

Cheers,

Roy

The one on the video looks crap as well doesn't it with that 3rd stay (top middle)

Would be better if the anchor points were even...

Done some inital investigating and found that you can buy lycra in matt, shine or hi-shine finish. Not sure which would be best for projecting on to. I would say matt, but I'd happily be corrected ;-)

Other issue I am finding is that I have only found fabric suppliers at the moment who can provide a with of 1.47m (4'8"). Going by the DJScreen site I'd need at least 5' to get a reasonable stretch. If I could get 7' I'd be happier with the possibility of a larger screen size.

Roy

Hi Guys, Just be carefull if you get the material that you use a machinist who understands that you have to overlock the edges and use a special thread that also stetch's or it will not streatch and look S__t. Belieave me i had some made and learnt by my mistakes. The total cost of material, Machinist, and elastic fasterners came to around £125.

I'll PM ya for the info...

Cheers,

Roy

Roy, you'll want a mat finish, the others will cause a more noticable "hot-spot".

Matt is what I thought, but thanks for the clarification...

Trying to find someone now that sells the fabric in widths greate than 1.5m

Cheers,

Roy

Hi Roy, I got some spandex at 1.5m wide and cost £10 a running metre for when I'm out doing the odd mobile, I opted for a square at 1.5 x 1.5 and at only £15 quid seems a great bargain.

Company name is 1st for fabrics based just north of Newcastle tel: 0191 270 1333 they will do postage but not sure how much.

I've got a novel way to rigging it up to what is classed as the norm and will show you how in about 30 minutes as I'm busy doing a check over the gear just now for an all day event on saturday. (12 to 12 is gonna be a long shift, lol.)

Cheers Paul,

How big can you stretch your 1.5 x 1.5 to?

Roy

Height is 70\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" and at the middle is 64\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"

Depending where I\\\'m playing when doing the odd mobile it is just not practible to set up a full show with lighting truss and extra stands so I came up with this idea to lessen the work.

Attach jubilee clips to top and bottom of stand x 8 £4

Get to washing line extendable props for £2.99 each total £5.98 (they can extend to over two metres)

Spandex 1.5 X 1.5 metres £15 (hem at top and bottom, slip prop poles through, elastic tags at sides)

Total outlay £25

of course position poles for no shadow at gig, lol.

Hi Paul

your some man for one man. That's a savage idea.

Jay

hehe, cheers mate, gonna attach two more elasticared tabs either side and should be done for that size, going to get a 1.5 x 2 metre piece and a case of same again, should look a bit more balanced, will do for the little bit bigger stages.

I think those clothes props are a God send.

That just answered a heap of questions for me ;-)

I'm gonna take my T-Bars (along with your photos) to a friend of mine who has a welding/fabrication business and see if we can knock up something similar.

Where did those clothes line thingy's from???

Roy

You can get them at any hardware store, B&Q, Homebase etc, the only thing I will be doing different in the future when I get the time will be making four collars with a wing nut tensioner so they are more easily adjustable to slide up and down the stands for the prop poles to slip into, but the way I have the jubilee clips does for now anyway, maybes a splash of black paint to hide them a bit.

Glad the idea has helped, gonna put a patent on it before them on ebay nick the idea... lol.

I can describe how you can make those collars if you want, just let me know.

Tayla ... have you tried this spandex with rear projection? Sometimes you need to place your projector from behind.

Thats how I use it, works fine.

i made mine out of pvc that comes apart white spandex and velcro. it can be hung or put on a pole and is front and rear viewable. the 2nd pic is fuzzy from me moving while taking the picture. the spandex works great but your usually limited to about 54" wide.

I've also tried roller blinds but couldn't find one that was translucent enough or that didn't dhow a grainy effect from the material, pity because they would have been ideal for rear projection. I may need to shop about a bit more.

Hi, I haven't used this at a gig yet, but I've got 2m x 1.5m white lycra and I got these to fix black bungee cords from each corner to the top and bottom of 2 tripod stands.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Holdon-Eyelet-Tent-Tarp-Repair-Camping-Garden-Mini-W10-/170437856237?cmd=ViewItem&pt=AU_Tents&hash=item27aee34bed#ht_4000wt_935

and these to attach the bungee to tripods

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Adjustable-hooks-6-8mm-bungee-shock-cord-x10-/380218434245?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Trailers_Transporters_Parts&hash=item5886c8e2c5#ht_635wt_935

they're good because you can adjust the length of the bungee easily to vary the width or the tension to get everything straight.

Nice one Andy... This looks like a much simpler soluiton.

Cheers,

Roy
