its best to just copy and replace the whole vdj folder at that location to the new one, that way all of the skins and effects as well as shortcuts you have downloaded will be transferred as well.
----------------- My laptop has a c drive with all programs and VDJ software, and my 7200rpm d drive has my mp3s
Where do I put the files containg XLM database so my BPM/Comment/etc are transferred.

I'm confused here, you were told to? do what? are you upgrading if so you don't need to do anything if it is a recent version upgrading to v6.1.1, best if you could re explain exactly what you are going or wanting to do.

are you running the same version on both. if your desktop has the greater information on it copy and paste it to your laptop or ext/drive. you may have to remove the old xml file from the folder on your lappy ext/drive but just cut and paste it to some place safe until you know everything is working ok.

desktop is version 6.0X and laptop is 6.1X
I am scared to change desktop version, just incase transfer does not go well, I will bring desktop to next party. Is it pkay to keep software on c drive and mp3's on faster d drive?
And where do I cut and paste xlm info

I believe I answers your ticket based on the verbage you pasted here.
If you are starting up a new system, before you install vdj to the machine, copy the folder at my documents (virtualdj) to the new machine at the same location.
Then install vdj from your download center and it should be identical to the first machine.
Don't worry about copying anything else.
Your bpms and comments and cues stay with the external drive and will be picked up when you start vdj the next time with this drive connected.
Any time you are concerned, just make copies of files in the event you mess something up.
But this is the simplest way to import to a new system.
If you install vdj first, you will already have a vdj folder in this location.
If you then try to copy the folder to my documents you will get a keep or replace option warning, just select to replace and the file needed will replace the wrong one created by installing first.
This is why I told you to copy the folder over first, then its seamless without errors etc...
Version does not matter, we can go backwards or forwards in version without disturbing information above version 5.
