Topic: NS7 vs TC's with Serato...

Whats going on everyone. I hate to make another serato vs vdj or TC's vs controller post but im going to have to but i need some advice on what to do. Ok, pretty much every club/ bar that has a dj booth that I go to is running the same setup, 2 tecnics 1200's with a rane ttm-57 and possibly 2 cdj 1000's and the dj is using serato. Im trying to make the move from a mobile dj to some sort of residency at one of my local spots. I live in the northern new jersey area so there is alot of competition. My question to you resident dj's is: What do you do when you show up to a club and step in the booth and they are using serato, with timecodes when you are used to using VDJ with an external controller. I dont want to step up to the mixer for my set and have to start hooking up my soundcard with my laptop and my controller. Should i make the switch to TC's with serato or is it ok to bring the ns7 (once i get it which is hopefully soon) and my macbook running vdj? Unfortunately winter is coming fast so the clubs are going to start filling there residency spots up soon so I need to figure out what im going to do in case I get a call to dj. Thanks everyone.

If the club had enough shelf space to fit the NS7 I would bring it and just hook into one of the spare inputs on the ttm-57. Why not use what you're most comfortable with? You'll rock the house that much better if you're using equipment you're familiar with. It wouldn't hurt to buy Serato and practice on it though, it would broaden your options as a DJ. Plus you could show up to the gig with everything you need in a backpack.

Thanks Dizzyrocks, I was leaning towards that option because unfortunately all the clubs are still stuck on the ssl bandwagon. All i would have to do is show up with my mbp pro and start my set.

Then you would be stuck with playing a "Filler" song while you switch laptops. Me I have the NS7/VDJ, This is what I use at the club every friday for my 7 hour gig. On saturday I DJ in another club that has the Serato outfit, But there really isn't any room for the NS7. So I simply hook up the VV sound card into the Rane mixer, Pop out my Serato TC's and seemlessly mix right into what ever the previous DJ was playing. If they had the new Rane 64 I would probably invest in serato because of the ability to have 2 laptops in use. The only draw back to using/having 2 different DJ softwares is that the cues etc, won't reflect in the other program. So basically you would be doing double work unless if you do not put cues in your music. Just like the other person said, "You will always be comfortable using what you are used to". But at the same time it is good to be all around comfortable with all the various software/controllers. Nowadays you never know what to expect when you get to the booth. Before you could pretty much count on seeing Tech's and some type of mixer. Now a different mixer or software can throw monkey wrench in your game.

The reason why many clubs in NJ and even NY have the SSL box... Its because many of the djs preffer it (They like using Timcodes). You have many dj groups on rotation and house djs. DJ kings, Turntable assasins, Heavy hitrters, All Pro, LMP and tons more. The standard setup is 1200's & CDJ 800's or 1000's.

As the CDJ 2000 Slowly becomes the new standard , time code will phase out. TT Guys will still use it. That's why I love Virtual DJ
it take 5 minutes to configure my setup to use Serato Timecode and a Serato Soundcard. I keep needles and a Vinyl Time Codes with me.
keep the Serato asio drivers installed on your computer..

So even tho I miss my full midi setup I can still work a great set in a clubs..
